Team Kennet u13s to u17s took part in the Oxford Young Athletes League at Horspath in Oxford over the bank holiday weekend.
A much smaller squad than usual saw the club finish 4th out of 8 clubs.
There were some great individual wins coming from Ethan Kuijten in the under 15 boys 1500m in 4.47.9, Emerald Hill Sawyer had a superb day in the under 13 girls, winning her 100m in 14.7, later went on to win the 800m in 2.35.2 shaving a second of her personal best, her team mate Ella Cronk also matched her team mate in the B string 800m clocking 2.53.9, Cronk also won her high Jump on Count back with a height of 1.30. Cronk also came 2nd in her other event Cronk Long Jump 3.89 and Hill Sawyer made it a hattrick of wins in the B Long Jump 3.43.
In the under 15 girls Evie Lewis won her B string Discus 20.34 but it was Eliska Simpson who took a Hatrick of wins in all the throws, her Discus 21.09 secured the double, the Shot 7.00 B string and Javelin 16.26 A string.
The under 13 boys had the best team result of 3rd place, Reuben Kuijten won his Discus 15.14, Noah Lauder-Clark won the Javelin with a throw of 32.60 a new best, and Ben Daley won the B String Javelin 20.75.
In the under 17 men James Fenner won the Javelin with a throw of 39.76.
There were some good performances taking 2nd places from Chloe O’Reardan in the under 15 300m 48.0, Evie Lewis in her A string Shot 7.68, Harry Smith and Euan Jones both taking fine 2nd places in their strings in the 1500m in the under 13 boys 5.29.7 and 5.35.0, Elliot Murphy also in the 1500m but in the under 15 boys 5.59.6 and James Simmons in the Long Jump 4.80.
The Team Kennet throwers started early this year by entering a winter series competition at Basingstoke AC in February.
The competition has all ages competing in all throws discipline together, therefore, throws coach, Cheryl Angell, competed alongside some of her athletes. A benchmark was set with a purpose to progress further, in the up-and-coming meetings this season.
On the day, blustery conditions were severe at times and the host club did debate whether to call it off for Health and Safety reasons but luckily the competition went ahead. Although temperatures were cold, the windy conditions far from ideal, all made the most of the competition.

Team Kennet Juniors Athletes have been out in force over the last two weekends at Various Open track and Field Meetings around the South getting ready for League matches.
At Bournemouth Noah Lauder-Clarke threw a massive throw in the under 13 Boys Javelin of 30.83 to win Gold but to take him to an early lead in UK Rankings, his little brother Seb Lauder-Clarke took part in the u11s 75m where he clocked 13.7.
At Bracknell Open TK Juniors secured several medals, Seb Simpson in the under 17 age group won the Discus 36.90 (UK no. 2) and Shot 11.75 and he had to settle for 2nd in the Hammer with a p.b. with 49.01 taking him to UK number 5.
Clare McGonnell now moved up to under 17 threw 31.59 for Silver in the Javelin and came 5th in her heat of the 300m 47.0.
Emerald Hil Sawyer left off from her indoor season to secure a Bronze in the 600m 1.52.8 in the under 13 girls, she also took part in the 75m 10.9 and 150m 22.35 just outside the medals.
In the same Age group Ella Cronk won her High Jump for Gold 1.23, she took part in the Long Jump 3.44 and 600m 2.08.3.
Ben Daley threw 23.32 in the under 13 Boys Javelin for 2nd place and a early top 10 UK ranking, he was 8th in the 1200m 4.32.7, in the same age group Luke Stiles was 5th in the Long Jump 3.69 and clocked 2.09 in the 600m, Harry smith was 5thin the 1200m in 4.24.3
Another Bronze came in the Javelin with Josh Ladds throwing 18.75 and clocking 10.9 in the 75m, Lestyn Thomas also took part in the 600m 2.23 and 75m 12.96.
In the under 15 age groups Will McDonald earned a Bronze in the Javelin 28.41 and threw 16.06 in the Discus, James Simmons clocked a p.b. in the 200m 27.6 and clocked a fast 12.8 in the 100m, Evie Lewis came 3rd in the Discus 20.98 and 5th in the Shot 7.00, Amber Stiles earned herself a p.b. in the High Jump but had to settle for 4th place on count back, she also ran in the 800m 2.47.0.
In the under 11 age groups no medal were won but some early good performances in the 75m Penelope Lyth clocked 11.98, Isla Ladds 12.4 and Elizabeth Wilson 12.5, in the 150m Ladds clocked 24.88, Wilson 24.6 and Ella McDonald 26.9, also in the 600m Lyth ran 2.13.4 and Wilson 2.20.0.
The Basingstoke Open saw more medals, Seb Simpson in the under 17s took 3 golds to his name, Hammer 40.43, Shot 11.81 and Discus 37.10.
Penelope Lyth took part in the under 11s and came back with 3 medals, she stole the show in the long jump 3.45, came 2nd in the 600m 2.04.69 both events gaining p.b.s and a Bronze in the 75m 12.30, Eliska Simpson got a Silver in the Discus 22.12, in the same event Evie Lewis got a bronze 18.47 and Suki Humphrey 5th with 15.35, Humphrey matched the placing in the Shot with 7.40.
Charlotte Bailey took part in the under girls 800m with a new p.b. of 2.40.97.
Another two personal bests came in the 1500m races, Isaac Mitcham in the u17 age group clocked 4.43.85 for 4th place and a Bronze came from Lola Mitcham in u15 age group clocking 5.57.8.
At Winchester Open Under 11 Quinn Joyce ran in the 600m clocking a new best time of 2.00.4 to win her Race and fastest of the day, she also clocked 12.5 in the 75m for 5th fastest.
In the under 13 age groups Ella Cronk cleared 1.25 in the High Jump for a new best height and later ran 2.5 in the 800m, Luke Stiles also ran in same race clocking 3.02.
Amber Stiles cleared 1.30 in the under 15 high jump, and parents Jonjo Stiles broke the clubs vet 45 record in the 3000m with a time of 10.45.99, wife Martine also broke the clubs vet 40 women’s record12.34.14
Abingdon Open was a little busier of TK athletes, it was the throwers who went, Luke Angell winning the Javelin 55.62, in the Discus event Turkay Altuntas won u15 age group throwing 29.18, Evie Lewis u15 winning the Girls 18.77 and Suki Humphrey coming 3rd 17.68, under 17 age group Joseph Hoaen threw 22.46 and Senior Athlete Harry Booker 30.34 and Cheryl Angell vet 55 12.24
The shot Altuntas threw 9.08 for another Gold medal, Evie Lewis 6.60 and Cheryl Angell 6.25.
In the Hammer Throw, Evie Lewis threw 16.63 and Cheryl Angell 17.84
Team Kennet QUADKIDS we’re back in action on Sunday for the first Oxford League Match at Horspath. We had a full squad of 32 athletes, U9 boys and girls and U11 boys and girls, first time for Team Kennet to fill the squad so it was set to be an exciting day.
For the under 9 boys we had Alexander Browning, Gethin Thomas, Jacob Williams, Max Burt and Sebastian Lauder-Clarke taking part, team scores finished at 458 ranking them first team on the day with Gethin Thomas finishing 4th overall.
In the under 9 girls squad Matilda Saunders, Evelyn Barker and Darcy Scaplehorn scored a combined score of 221 ranking them also in first place. Matilda Saunders took 2nd overall.
The 10 under 11 boys put in a solid performance scoring 678 points which allowed them to finish 6th on the day. Malik Gaye and Connor O’Riordan were quickest with 12.3s and 12.4s in the 75m. Flynn Sanderson’s long jump was strong at 3.42m and just behind him was Leo Jenkins 3.01m. The Vortex throw saw Malik Gaye and Joshua Kuijten battling it out to throw the furthest. Gaye throwing 22.96m just ahead of Kuijten 22.71m. Finally in the 600m Samuel Atkins was quickest for the squad finishing with a time of 2.10.8s. Other boys taking part, Brodie Sanderson, Henry Kaxe, Joshua Bailey and Miles Phoniex.
The 14 U11 girls had a brilliant day scoring 770 overall to finish 1st on the day. Matilda Clare again taking the top spot and Ella Larkin 2nd, Quinn Joyce 4th and Penelope Lyth 5th. First event was the vortex and with the wind proved a challenge, Ella Larkin and Matilda Clare both throwing over 20m. The 75m saw Clare clock the fastest time for TK 12s and followed by Lyth 12.4s, with Larkin and Joyce 12.5s. In the long jump Clare leaped furthest with 3.51m, Lyth again close behind 3.24m. The last event was the 600m which saw some exciting battles to the finish. In the first heat Larkin took the lead however Joyce 1.59.0s stormed to the finish to just beat Larkin 1.59.6s. Another battle between Clare and Lyth saw Lyth overtake Clare in the final 200m to clock 2.08.8s, Clare 2.11.7s. Also finishing well in the 600m Ella McDonald with a time of 2.11.5s in her heat.
The U11 girls finished the day by entering two relay teams for the 4x100m. Team 1 Clare, Joyce, O Stratford and Lyth, Team 2, Millie Barlow, Larkin, A Stratford and Elodie Burdett. Team 1 stormed to the finish line with a time of 63.9s and team 2 clocking a time of 69.7s with the club record of 62.3 in sight!
Other girls taking part Matilda Pedersen, Grace Hogg, Isabel Fagan, Elizabeth Wilson and Megan Jones.
With all the scores Team Kennet QUADKIDS won the match on the day. Well done to all!
Team Kennet had several athletes represent Berkshire at Horspath, in Oxford at the u15/17 Inter Counties match.
Seb Simpson was on fire as he broke the under 17 club Discus record and moving him to UK number 14 throwing 42.63 to finish in 3rd place earning himself a new personnel best throw.
Another Personnel best came from Clare McGonnell in the u15 girls Javelin where she finished 4th with 32.77 to go UK 27 in her age group.
George Down also took part in the under 17 age group he also came 4th place with a jump of 6.24.
Team Kennet had 5 athletes chosen to represent their own counties in the English Schools held at Sport City in Manchester.
James Fenner took part in his first English Schools in the Junior Boys Javelin to throw a new personnel Best of 43.96 to finish an excellent 5th place.
George Down took part in the Long Jump in the Intermediate Boys, jumping just below his best to finish 7th with 6.29.
Zoe Allen took part in the Shot coming 9th place which was her debut at the games with 9.70 throw in the Junior Girls, and Harry Booker took part in his last School Games in the Senior Boys throwing 36.63 for 15th place in the Discus.
On Wednesday 7th December TK hosted a Santa Run. Over 40 runners took part in freezing temperatures. Please see below results and some pictures from the event. Thank you to all who took part and to the coaches and volunteers for supporting the event.
Team Kennet had a fairly good turnout at the First Oxford Cross Country League held at Newbury Showground on Sunday.
The Under Mens and Womens race is combined, Isaac Mitcham was 23rd and Olivia Smith 15th in their categories.
The Senior Womens race Sue Francis came 34th and Katie Reynolds 105th
The Senior Mens David Hamill was clubs first runner home in 90th followed by Andy Colling in 120th, next home was Stephen Field 205th then Mitch Poustie 230th, Simon Hockaday 269th and Simon Gale 282nd.

The main change this year is the introduction of athlete fees payable by each runner
To keep the league running and to reflect the increasing cost of venues, there is a fee of £20 per athlete for the season, £15 for under 17. Descending by £4 or £3 per match when you register. There will be no car parking fees at the venue
Team Kennet Juniors came out in force in their first Basingstoke Destination League match of the season that saw a record number of 60 Youngsters turn out.
The Round 1 match was held in Basingstoke over an undulated and twisting course with a few inclines thrown in. The conditions were brilliant for the course, the first race the Under 9 Girls saw 10 TK girls line up, and it was a successful race for them, as Team Kennet took the first 7 places and taking the top 3 team places overall.
In the race Orlagh Stratford led from the gun to then be joined by race winner Ella Larkin in the final 200m, Orlagh had to settle for second place, Maisie McCurtin took third place with a strong finish.
The Girls packed in well with Alice Stratford 4th, Matilda Saunders 5th, Evie Kearney 6th and Elodie Burdett 7th further down the field Sophie Barnett was 13th, Eveleyn Barker 14th and Jasmine Hemmings 18th.
The under 9 Boys team came 3rd overall with B team 7th, in a big field of over 30.
Gethin Thomas led the way in 6th place with Joshua Kuijten 7th, Seb Lauder-Clarke 17th and making up the A team was Xander Cameron 21st.
The B team was led home by Jacob Williams 22nd, Max Burt 25th
The under 11 Girls finished 3rd and 7th in the team scores, Harriet Saunders led the TK Vests home in 5th place with a strong finish, Ella McDonald was next home in 9th followed by Quinn Joyce 12th and Matilda Clare 14th, the B team was led by Penelope Lyth in 17th, Elora Murray 37th, Penelope Gorbold 39th and Rose Bell 44th in a field of over 50 runners.
The under 11 boys had the biggest field of the day with over 60 runners, Team Kennet A team finished 2nd place behind a strong Aldershot squad, The Yellow vest packed well with Oscar Larkin first home for the club in 6th place, then Ben Doherty 8th, Harry Smith 10th and Euan Jones 11th, the B team came 5th overall with Malik Gaye leading them home in 12th place, Luke Stiles 18th, William Devall 24th and Ronny Bowsher 27th. The C Team came 10th overall Henry Bell 29th, Samuel Atkins 30th, Rudy Bowsher 32nd and Josh Bailey 43rd. it was a great turnout from the club in this age group with Lestyn Thomas 49th and Alfie Cronk 57th making up the rest of the club athletes.
The under 13 Girls also had a strong turnout, a battle close to the front from Amber Stiles 4th and Charlotte Bailey 5th helped the A Team finish 2nd place behind the hosts, Emerald Hill-Sawyer was 13th and Anna Hall 15th.
The B team was led by Chloe O’Reardon 19th Amelie Disley 21st, Lola Mitcham 26th and Ella Cronk 27th, and Mia Kearney 28th. For the B team to finish 6th
