SEAA Combined Events

Team Kennet struck twice at the recent South of England Multi events Championships held at Horspath Athletics Track in Oxford.

Stuart Bladon earned himself South of England Champion in the Octathlon in the under 17 age group with a below par of 4093 pts. Bladon clocked up a 54.38 in the 400m, 13.9 in the 100m hurdles, 1.80 in the high jump, 5.91 in long jump, 11.50 in the shot, 31.75 Discus and in the javelin 36.38.

Harry Booker came Runners Up in the under 15 boys age group with 2319 pts, in his 800m ran 2.31.04, 80m hurdles 13.1. 1.53 in his high jump and 5.25 in the long jump and 11.48 in the shot.

South of England Combined Events

Team Kennet’s Anna Montagne earned herself her first major medal at the weekend in the South of England Pentathlon at Lee Valley in the under 17 age group.

Anna’s score of 3255 which gave her third equal on the day was a club record points score, on her way to Bronze she also broke the clubs under 17 High Jump indoor record clearing 1.60m, she threw the Shot 10.33, jumped 4.93 in the long jump clocked a fast 9.44 in the 60m hurdles and ran the 800m in 2.36.94

SAL Match 3

Team Kennet struggled in the last match of the Southern Athletics with a much depleted team due to a few drop outs on the morning of the match at held at Poole.

On the day there were some outstanding individual performances the Mens Javelin Luke Angell won with his best throw for a few years with 56.16 and he was backed up well in the B string from Stuart Bladon winning with 46.78.
Phoebe Hoaen made it a double win in the Javelin with a throw of 39.77.
Sophie Wheadon carried on with her Discus wins with a 32.90 throw to finish well clear of the field, she also won the B string Shot 9.11 while her A string partner Hayley Steward had to settle for 2nd place 10.18, Steward won her Long Jump 5.11 and in the mens long jump both Stuart Bladon 6.22 and Oliver Bazin 5.89 won their strings.
Hayley Steward earned herself personnel bests in the 100m 13.0 and 200m 26.8 for two third places, Amy Russell taking part in the B strings 100m 13.6 and 200m 29.4 came 3rd and 4th. The mens 100m saw Oliver Bazin clock 12.1 and Daniel Hockaday 12.1.
Charlotte Booker earned herself a personnel best in the hammer, and brother Harry also gained good points for the club in the high jump and 400m
Duncan McGrory went under 5 mins to set a top UK vet 60 top 5 ranking and breaking the clubs vet 60 record in the 1500m.
Good points came in from the middle distance runners from both sides Ben Schiffer-Harte, Simon Hockaday, Rosa Lawrence and Izzy Hole.

Oxford League Quadkids

In the 3rd match of the Oxford League, Team Kennet’s Under 9 Boys team finished 1st with 651 points. The Under 9 girls team was 2nd with 200 points, the Under 11 boys were 6th with 637 points and the Under 11 girls 2nd with 633 points. Both Under 9 teams won the league with the Under 11 girls 2nd in their age group and the Under 11 boys 6th.

For the Under 9 boys, Austin Ambrose was the overall winner with 195 points with Aiden Fleming 168 (3rd overall), Noah Lauder-Clark 161 (5th overall) and Joshua Ladds 127 the other scorers for the team. Emma Long was the top TK Under 9 girl (4th overall) despite missing the 600m with an ankle injury. Holly Lockett was 5th overall with 97 points.

For the Under 11 girls, Bethany MacLean was overall winner with 216 points with Erin Gosney 177, Eloise Ross 122 and Millie Phillips/Tillie Bell 118 the other scorers. For the Boys, Ethan Kuijten on 212 points was just piped by Harry Fenner on 217 with Will McDonald 208 the other scorer for the team.

In the individual events, there was another overall 1-2-3 by Noah, Austin and Aiden in the U9B Vortex throw, a 1-2 for Austin and Aiden in the long jump and in the 75m and a 3rd overall for for Austin in the 600m. Overall wins for Emma in 75m, Long Jump and Vortex for U9g. An overall 4th place for Will in the U11B long jump and 3rd for Harry in the vortex and an overall wins for Bethany in the U11G Vortex.

England U20 Championships

Team Kennet’s Ben East came 4th in the England Championships in the under 20 age group in the Javelin at Bedford on Saturday throwing 61.35m, Ben just moved up to this age group was one of a few throwing in his first year on moving up.

Wessex Young Athletes League report

Team Kennet were in action in the 3rd Round of the Wessex Young Athletes League on Sunday held at Oxford.

This was a tough match for the club as they were against two of the top 5 clubs in the league including themselves in fourth place.

The under 15 Girls kept up there pressure on defending their own age group title having to settle for second place on the day, Clare McGonnell won her Javelin again with a throw of 25.92, her impressive 300m tactics blasting out from the gun paid of to just win with 44.4 and   she had to settle for 2nd place in the Sprint Hurdles clocking a fast 13.3. Mia Wright cleared 1.43 to win the High Jump with Leilah Gaye coming 2nd in the B string. Emelia Lunn stepped up from the Sprints to 800m for the first time to record 2.38.6 for 2nd in the B string, she came 3rd in the A string Long Jump 4.29. Elsewhere Ava Brade clocked 14.6 in a huge head wind in the 100m for 4th place, Suki Humphreys came 2nd in the A string Discus 18.84.

The under 17 women also came 2nd in their match to keep them in the top 8 overall, Best Performances of the day came in the Javelin as Both Alanna Smith 30.89 and Eve Brown 28.86 scored a double win, In The Discus Annabel Maclean 23.77 and Kirsten Fraser 16.50 both came 2nd in their strings, Fraser came 2nd in the Shot 8.80, two 3rd places came in the long jump Maclean 4.07 and Smith 3.53, The 800m Eve Brown came 3rd with 2.32 and Smith taking a B string win in 2.44.5, Finally the 300m Brown clocked 45.6 for 3rd place and Maclean 46.3 for 2nd B string.

The under 17 men also secured another 2nd place, Brandon Carter threw 41.37 to win his Javelin, with Seb Simpson winning the B string 24.56, Simpson in his best Event the Discus went out to a win with 34.41, and another double win came in the Shot Simpson 9.82 and Carter 8.38, Euan Avery won his high Jump 1.60.

George Down kept up his unbeaten run in the Long Jump in the league with a 6.15 jump and Avery coming 2nd B string 5.07, in the 100m two 2nd places came from Down 11.8 and Avery 12.6

The under 15 boys were 3rd in their match best result of their match was the Javelin James Fenner throwing 39.86 for 1st place and William Appleby taking 2nd B string. Jacob Avery came 3rd in his High Jump 1.50, Fenner came 4th in the long jump with 4.30.

Ivan Checkmazov found a much challenging 800m this time out and had to settle for 3rd place with 2.21.8, but made up with one place better in the 300m for 2nd place 42.4 and James Simmons taking 3rd place, in the sprints Avery had the best result of winning the B string 26.9

The under 13 girls were beaten in to 3rd place in a very close match, Eliska Simpson 17.06 and Zoe Dickson 15.28 took a double win in the Discus, Dickson made it another B string win in the Javelin 16.38 and Simpson taking 3rd A string 18.58, and in the Shot both Simpson 7.23 and Dickson 5.55 had to settle for 2nd places.

Amber Stiles maintained her unbeaten run in the High Jump clearing 1.30, and Ella Cronk taking 2nd B string 1.15, Cronk 3.64 and daisy Downer 3.35 both were 3rd in the long jump. In the long distance races the 1200m Stiles came home in 3rd place 4.27 and in the shorter 800m Emerald Hill -Sawyer was 4th A 2.46 and Cronk 2nd B string 2.52, Both Hill-Sawyer and Olivia Rayfeld scored good points in the 100m and 200m races.

The under 13 boys age group came 4th, this was a tough match for them, best result came in the Javelin with a superb double win Harry Fenner first athlete to beat Will McDonald this year, only 1cm separated the boys 31.90 and 31.89. Both teamed up in the Discus for 3rd places each 18.40 and 14.00, and both again teamed up in the Long Jump in a very high competitive competition Fenner taking 3rd place 4.03 and Mcdonald winning the B string 3.94, Frank Edwards 1500m and 200m gained good points for the club , Aiden Fleming went out hard in the 800m only to be taken close to the line for 3rd place in 2.36.6, Flynn Murray and Josh Ladds both helped the team score with their event.

The Club had 4 x 100m relay team out in the u13 girls  they were 5th, u15 girls 4th and u17 women 3rd place while in the boys u13s they also came 5th.

Quad Kids Oxford League Match 2

Team Kennet had a great turnout for the Quad Kids match with 4 under 9 boys, 4 under 9 girls, 12 under 11 girls, and 8 under 11 boys.  First up for the under 9 girls was the sprints with Praiya Foreman clocking a time of 12.3 to record the fastest under 9 sprint on the day for the girls.  In the long jump Foreman stole the show again for Team Kennet with a leap of 2.44m.  In the Vortex throw Darcey Scaplehorn threw 19m to throw the furthest of the U9 girls and finally Foreman stormed to the finish line with a new Team Kennet Club record of 2:11:7 for her 600m and with her solid performances she secured a 1st place finish on the day overall.  Other girls taking part Isla Cooke and Evelyn Barker.

For the under 9 boys William Moloney was quickest for TK also with a sprint of 12.3s but it was Gethin Thomas with the biggest jump of 2.49m.  In the vortex throw Max Burt threw furthest for TK with 21.7m with Sebastian Lauder-Clarke close behind with 20m. In the 600m it was close between the boys but Moloney finished quickest for TK with 2:17:7. It was Moloney’s debut for the club and finished in the top 3 overall.  Both the under 9 teams managed to secure 1st place overall on the day.    

For the under 11 girls it was close in the sprints with Matilda Clare and Ella Larkin both clocking 11.6s followed by Penelope Lyth and Elizabeth Wilson 11.8s.  In the long jump Clare leaped furthest for TK 3.69m with Lyth 3.60m and Isla Ladds 3.51m.  For the Vortex, Clare maintained her form with 28.05m, Alice Stratford 26.05m and Lyth 25.65m.  Also throwing over 20m was Larkin, Wilson, Ladds and Ella McDonald.  In the 600m it was close for the squad of 12 with Larkin finishing quickest 1:57:8, Quinn Joyce 2:02:3, Clare 2:03:7 and Lyth 2:04:6. On the day overall Clare finished 1st with Lyth finishing 2nd.  Also in the top 5 was Ella Larkin, 4th and Isla Ladds, 5th.   The under 11 girls finished 1st on the day overall. 

At the end of the day Team Kennet Quad kids entered 3 relay teams after proving popular back in April and managed to break the U11 record in the Oxford League with a time of 64.6seconds.  Well done to the team, Clare, Larkin, Ladds and Lyth!

Under 11 boys had some quick times in the 75m sprint with Jenson Nichols clocking 11.7s, Malik Gaye and Connor O’Riordan 11.8s and Samuel Atkins 12s.  In the long jump Gaye leapt furthest for TK with 3.51m, close behind Nichols with 3.43m.  In the vortex Nichols threw furthest with 28.5m again with Gaye close behind 24.64m and Joshua Kuijten 24.2m.  Atkins was quickest in the 600m with 2:00:2, Gaye 2:08:0.  Other boys taking part Brodie Sanderson, Flynn Sanderson and Henry Kaxe.   The team finished 4th overall on the day.

Wessex League Match 1

Team Kennet Juniors Athletics competed in the first round of fixtures in the Wessex Young Athletes Track and Field League at the weekend, at Andover.

In a close match the Yellow/Blue and White Vests narrowly missed out on a match win but secured 3 out of the 6 age group wins.

The Girls section made the best of the team starts, Under 13 Girls showed the depth with a convincing age group win, day started on the track with the 70m hurdles with Elodie Burdett coming 4th A string 18.1, in the B string a great win from Ella Parsons in 16.4, next up was the 1500m this saw a great solo run from Penelope Lyth to win in 5.33.6 and team mate Elodie Burdett secured a B string win in 5.45.1, the 800m Affra Bailey came home in 4th 2.49.4 and Alice Stratford secured 2nd B string in 2.48.3, the Sprints fared well for the club, Matilda Clare came 2nd in the 200m with 29.4 and Orlagh Stratford taking 3rd in the B string 30.9, the 100m Isla Ladds clocked 14.2 for 4th A and Sophia Mahoney took 3rd place in the B string 15.4, The 4 x 100m Relay quartet of O. Straford, Clare, Lyth and Ladds ran a superb relay to come home in first place in 58.6, while in the Non Scoring 4 x 100m the quartet of  A. Stratford, Millie Barlow, Ayla Wyvill and Mahoney won their race in 65 seconds.

On to the Field Isla Ladds showed her strength to win the Long Jump with a leap of 4.09 and Clare made it a double with a b win 3.97, the High Jump both girls cleared 1.10 Orlagh Stratford taking 2nd A and Masie McCurtin winning the B string. The Throws always secure TK high points, this was so in the Shot as another double win came from Affra Bailey 5.59 and Ayla Wyvill 4.61, Clare won her Javelin with 20.47 and two good second places came from Isla Ladds 18.19 and Penelope Lyth 9.58 in the Discus.

The under 15 girls will be strong for the club this year, they also took a convincing win in their age group on the Field a Double win came in the High Jump with Jess McCurtin 1.30 and Ella Cronk 1.25, Cronk surprised herself by steeping in the Shot and secured a 2nd place with 8.47 and in the Long Jump Isabel Payne lept 4.68 to finish 3rd place and in the B string Emerald Hill Sawyer won this string in 4.45.

The Track picked up massive points, Harriet Saunders won her 1500m by just over 100m in 5.05.20, in the 800m a double win came from Olivia Bentley 2.31.4 and Jess McCurtin 2.40.7, the shorter sprint races first in the 300m Hill Sawyer clocked 47.9 for 3rd place, and a good second came from McCurtin 48.4 in the B string, in the 200m Bentley came 3rd A string 28.3 and Cronk 4th B string 30.7, and in the 100m Payne was 3rd A string 13.4 and Hill Sawyer taking 2nd place in the B string 13.9

The 4 x 100m Relay team of Payne, Hill Sawyer, McCurtin and Bentley saw them finish in second place 56.4

The under 15 Boys are also very strong this year, and TK boys showed their strength in the Field events, In the Shot Berkay Altuntas won this event with a throw of 9.09 and new comer Oscar Hook took the B string with 9.07, Both boys teamed up for another double win in the Discus Altuntas 33.35 and Hook 27.00 and Noah Lauder-Clarke won the Javelin with a throw of 39.19 and Josh Ladds taking 2nd B string 26.95. Josh Brian took part in the long jump finishing 2nd

On the Track, new comer Matias Huelgas came 4th in the 100m 12.9 and Brian won his string 13.6, the pair teamed up in the 200m with Huelgas 3rd A string 26.6 and Brian taking 2nd B string 28.8, Lauder Clarke secured another win in the 300m 43.3 with Ladds taking 2nd B string 48.6, Harry Smith came 2nd in his 1500m with 4.59.4 and the 4 x 100m relay quartet of Lauder-Clarke, Ladds, Brian and Hueglas ran a superb relay to be clipped right on the line and had to take 2nd place 54.2

The under 17 mens age group saw only two boys turn up for the club Turkay Altuntas won his Shot with 11.68 throw and in the Discus threw 30.97 for 2nd place, Theo Nightingale  came 2nd in his High Jump 1.70 and was 4th in his Long Jump 5.35

The under 17 Girls were 3rd in their age group, mostly specializing in their own events, a double win came in the High Jump with Leilah Gaye 1.40 and Amber Stiles 1.30, in the Shot Zoe Dickson was 2nd A string 7.44 and Suki Humphreys winning the B string 6.72, The Discus saw the same results with Dickson throwing 23.17 and Humphreys 19.85, Dickson came 2nd in her Javelin 15.48, Amelie Tayton came home in 2nd place in the 800m 3.00.8

Finally the under 13 Boys saw only 3 boys turn out due to other sports over the weekend, Jenson Nichols made his mark by winning the 100m in 13.4 and also winning the Javelin with 33.63, Alfie Cronk had a good day in his throws coming 2nd in the A string Discus 14.08 and winning the B string Shot 6.57, with Nichols taking 2nd A string 7.83, Josh Bailey came a good 2nd in the 1500m 5.38.3 and 4th in his 200m 36.1.

Oxford League Quadkids

In the Oxford League Quadkids for the under 9s and 11s at Oxford, Team Kennet’s Under 11 Boys and Girls teams both finished in 1st place. The boys scoring 816 points and the girls 710.

Individually, Harry Fenner  was 2nd Under 9 boy overall on 157 points with Hannah Bosley (76) and Georgie Ryan (58) 4th and 5th in the Under 9 girls. Theo Campbell was 2nd overall Under 11 boy on 227 points with Ollie Tozer 4th on 210with James Fenner 206 and Henry Waters 173 the other point scorers for the team.Zoe Allen was also 2nd overall in the Under 11 girls on 205 points with Clare McGonnell 3rd on 194 points. Bethany MacLean (159) and Emma Davies (152) were the other point scorers.

For the Under 11 boys, Theo was fastest (3rd overall) over 75m in 12.1 with Ollie 12.2 and James 12.7. Over 600m Ollie 2.02.7 (2nd overall) just pipped Henry 2.08.9 with Jonathon Patrionis 2.10.2. The long jump saw Theo 3.67 (2nd overall), Ollie 3.42 and James 3.20 jump furthest and in the Vortex James was the overall winner with 35.20 with Theo (overall 2nd) 31.47 and Ollie 22.58.

For the girls, Zoe 11.9 was 2nd fastest overall with Clare 12.6 and Emma 12.7 in the 75m. In the 600m Zoe was 3rd overall in 2.05.4 with Bethany 2.14.5 and Clare 2.15.3 while in the long jump Zoe 3.24, Clare 3.22 and Emma 2.85 jumped furthest and in the vortex Clare 26.46 was another overall winner with Zoe 23.20 and Bethany 23.00 not far behind in 2nd and 3rd overall.

In the Under 9s, Harry’s vortex throw of 23.50 was just the overall winner with his 75m time of 13.2 equal 1st.

Berkshire U13 Championships

Team Kennet had several athletes compete at the u13 Berkshire Track and Field Championships held at Bracknell.

Annabel Todd took the clubs only gold in a well deserved performance that saw her run 1.45.9 just missing out on the club record in the 600m, she added another medal a Silver in the Discus with a new Personnel best of 19.77. Aimee Dickson secured a Bronze Medal in the 70m hurdles clocking 13.3. Charlotte Absolom earned herself two Silver medals firstly in the High Jump with 1.40 and in the long jump 4.17. Oliver Absolom got a Bronze in the Discus with a throw of 19.16 and Oliver Humphrey just missed out on a medal in the Javelin with a throw of 24.38
