Wessex YA League report

Team Kennet got back to winning ways in the second round of the Wessex Young Athletes League held at Andover on Sunday that saw some outstanding track and field performances from the clubs athletes.

The final match score was

The most outstanding performance of the day was from under 13 boy William McDonald who threw a massive 37.98 in to win the Javelin and go straight in at UK Number 1.

The under 15 Girls  got back to their age winning ways again as they won their age group on target to retaining their own age group title, Claire McGonnell 12.9 and Zoe Allen 13.5 got the girls underway with a superb Double win in the 75m hurdles, and at same time another Double win came in the High Jump from Twin Sisters Neve Wright 1.40 and Mia Wright 1.35, Allen later went on to win her Shot 10.18 and M. Wright taking 3rd B String, McGonnell made it another win in the Javelin with a 31.71m throw. The long Jump N. Wright came 3rd A string 4.13 and Octavia Thomas winning the B string. Leilah Gaye came 4th in the 800m 2.53.

In the sprints Thomas came 3rd in the 100m A string 14.0, while in the B string Ava Brade was 2nd 13.9, Thomas came 4th A in the 200m 29.1 and Sophie Moores took a B string win 28.7, the longer sprint 300m Allen came home in 2nd place and Debutee Isla Carpenter came in 1st B string.

The Relay Team of Moore, Brade, Allen and Thomas were 3rd 56.4

The under 17 men won their age group as well, A double win came in the Shot Seb Simpson 11.21 and Brandon Carter 8.02, Simpson won his Discus 35.95, in the Javelin Carter had to settle for 2nd place A string 41.57 and Simpson won his B string. Euan Avery won his High Jump with 1.65, Isaac Mitcham was rewarded with a good personnel best in his 1500m 4.44.7 and had to settle for 2nd A string by just point one of  second, Mitcham went one better to win his 400m in 62.0, the 100m Avery came 2nd with 12.0.

The under 13 boys were 2nd in their match, Aiden Fleming won his 800m in a very tactical race, with Reuben Kuijten taking 2nd B string. The Longer 1500m Noah Lauder-Clarke was 4thA string and Frank Edwards taking 2nd B string. Earlier in the day both Ben Daley and Josh Ladds came 2nd in their strings of the 75m hurdles. Daley and Kuijten both came 2nd in the Shot, The Discus Daley came 3rd A string and Will Mcdonald 2nd B string. Lauder-Clarke won his B string Javelin 25.56

The under 13 girls also were 2nd in their match, Emerald Hill-Sawyer had a superb day, she won her 100m in 15.0 and had to settle for 2nd place in 200m 30.6, which she matched in the 800m 2.46, on the field it was the throws that got 100% of the points, Eliska Simpson winning her Shot and Discus 21.23, Zoe Dickson won her B string Shot and discus 18.17 and in the Javelin Anna Hall threw 19.21 for a good win and Dickson making it a hattrick of B wins 16.96. Ella Cronk came 2nd in her High Jump wit ha new p.b. of 1.20 and in the long jump strings both Cronk 3.64 and Hall were 3rd places. Back on the track Anna Hall had her 2nd win of the day in a well timed 1200m race clocking 4.31.2 and Lola Mitcham taking 2nd place in the B string, Cronk came 2nd in her 800m B string 2.54.08 another p.b. and Olivia Rayfield came 5th B and 3rd B in her 100 and 200m races.

The under 17 women came 2nd in their age group a great double win came in the Javelin Alanna Smith 33.09 and Eve Brown 25.94, Charlotte Absolom won her Discus 22.38 and also winning the Shot 9.42 and Carly Chisholm coming 2nd in the long jump. The 800m Brown came home in 3rd place 2.33.9 and Smith winning the B string 2.43.7. the 100m Chisholm came 4th A string 14.1 and Absolom 2nd in the B string 14.1 as well, the longer 300m event Brown came 4th A and Smith 3rd B string and two teamed up with Chisolm and Absolom to come 2nd in the 4x100m relay.

The under 15 Boys were 3rd on the day In their age group Ivan Checkmozov took full control in his 800m race to come home as winner in 2.17.3, in the longer 1500m event Elliot Murphy was 3rd A string 4.55.2 and Ethan Kuijten 1st B string 4.58 both boys getting best times.

James Simmons was 2nd A string in his Long Jump 4.21, Another win came in the High Jump from Jacob Avery 1.55. The Throws brought in good points Joseph Hoaen and Kuijten both 2ndin their string s in the Shot, Hoaen was 3rd in his Discus and taking 2nd in his Javelin. The Sprints Avery came 4th A 13.0 and James Simmons 3rdB 13.6, Both Simmons 28.2 and Murphy 30.9 came 3rd in their strings of the 200m.

Harry Brooker took part as a u20 he broke the clubs Discus record throwing 39.26m also as a u20 Arthur Lane clocked 57.2  in his first 400m race, an hour earlier clocking 2.13 in the 800m

On all it was a fantastic day for the club with so many personnel best performances and back to winning ways again.

Wessex League Match report

Team Kennet were co hosting in the last Wessex League match of the season held at Abingdon that saw 8 clubs in first time take part in a league match , The club saw a good 60 athletes turn out for the match to finish in third place, the result meant that Team Kennet were 7th out of the 24 clubs in the final league tables, with all the deductions of non officials Team Kennet came out on top supplying most officials all year and this moved them up to 5th overall only 3pts behind League winners New forest Juniors.

The under 15 girls team came 2nd on the day and finished 3rd overall in their age group league, Clare McGonnell had a superb day with a hattrick of wins firstly winning the 75m hurdles in 12.66, throwing a new personnel best in the Javelin 33.47 moving her to UK ranked 20 and finally winning the 300m in 44.11. There was a brilliant double win in the high Jump from Twin Sisters Neve Wright 1.50 and Mia 1.48, Bethany Maclean backed up McGonnell to win the B string Javelin 21.41, also in the Throws the Discus two second places came from Evie Lewis 20.43 and Suki Humphreys 17.23, Both Teamed up in the Shot matched the placings Lewis 6.92 and Humphreys 6.36, the Long Jump Sophie Moores came 3rd with 4.18 and Maclean 4.10 for 2nd placed B string.

Back on the Track there was also two 2nd places in the 800m Maclean 2.43 and Leilah Gaye 2.55, Gaye came 3rd in her 300m B string, on the shorter sprints the competition was fierce, the 100m Moores came 4th A string 14.3 and Amy Chivers also 4th B string 14.25, the 200m faired better Moores 29.68 and Chivers 29.7 both taking 3rd places.

The 4x100m Relay TK had 2 girls teams the main squad of McGonnell, Chivers, Maclean and Moores were just edged out for 2nd place 56.19 and the Non Scoring Team did really well coming in just behind the A team of TK in 57 seconds.

The under 17 girls also came 2nd in their match, to finish in the top 6 overall Charlotte Absolom won her Long Jump and B string Shot 9.15, Annabel Maclean won the A string Shot 9.26 and her discus 24.8 and Alanna Smith won the Javelin with 29.03 and was 3rd in her 800m 2.48.8.

The under 13 girls put in all round great team effort to finish 3rd that saw only 8 pts separate  four teams scoring highly. Emerald Hill-Sawyer had another great day as her confidence in the sport is excelling she sat back in her 800m to sprint finish and win in 2.36.7, She had to settle for 3rd place in the A string long jump 3.41 and 15.2 in the 100m was only good enough for 5th in a strong field.

Zoe Dickson won the Discus with 19.38, a double win came in the Javelin Eliska Simpson threw 22.06 and Anna Hall 21.02 both girls getting in the top 40 UK rankings. Ella Cronk cleared 1.20 for 5th A string and New comer Hannah Taylor came 2nd B string 1.15. I the long distance race 1200m Charlotte  Bailey came 3rd A string and Hall 4th B string, Cronk was 3rd B string her 800m. Maja Cotton picked up B string points in the 100m 5th place and 200m 4th place.

The under 15 Boys came 3rd on the day Ben Cooper had another good day he came 2nd in his 100m A string 12.05 and James Simmons came 3rd B string, Simmons was 4th in his 200m 27.6, Ivan Checkmozov was in good form as he won his 800m in 2.17 and came 2nd later in the 300m 41.5, Oliver Carroll ran 2.28 for 2nd B string in the 800m Carroll came 3rd in the Long Jump 4.38 and Simmons took a B win with 4.18. James Fenner won his Javelin 39.55 an came 3rd in his 300m, the 4x100m relay team were pipped right on the line and had to take 2nd place in 51.77 (Cooper, Simmons, Fenner and Carroll).

The Under 13 Boys also were 3rd in their match capping a good season, double win came in the javelin Will McDonald  throwing 32.79 and Noah Lauder-Clarke 25.43, Turkay Altuntas won the Discus 27.31 to go in to UK number 9 and McDonald taking 2nd place 16.16, in the Shot Altuntas made it another win with 9.90 and Lauder-Clark 3rd B. The long Jump Aiden Fleming came 2nd A string with 4.30 and Harry Fenner won his B string 4.07. Fleming took full control of his 800m race to come home in first place 2.37.1 and Ben Daley coming 4th B string. In the sprints Fenner and Lauder-Clarke and Josh Ladds picked up good points. The Relay team came 3rd consisting of Mcdonald, Lauder-Clarke, Fenner and Ladds

The under 17 men came 4th in their match Double wins came in the Shot Seb Simpson10.76 and Brandon Carter 7.48, Simpson won his discus 35.24 and another double win came in the Javelin Brandon Carter 41.16 and Simpson 20.35.

George down came 2nd in his long Jump 5.86.

Andover Triathlon

Team Kennet had many athletes participate at the Andover Triathlon at the weekend.  A great event for first timers and experienced triathletes alike. Triathlon is set in the Hampshire countryside of Test Valley.

There were 12 seniors from Team Kennet racing – dominating the top 10 with a 4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th position. George Andrew Westall had the fastest bike split of the day, 4th place overall and 3rd in Age Group 20-39, Mel McKernan 19th. Simon Whatson 2nd fastest run split, 5th overall and 1st in AG 40-49. Bart Kuijten 2nd in AG 40-49, 4th fastest run and 6th overall, Colin Abraham 10th and Sean Bird 13th.  Neil Atherton 9th overall and 2nd in AG 50-59, Philip Cowhig 6th and Emiliano Espinar 9th.   Richard Dunbabin 1st in AG 60-69; Chris Treacher 3rd,  Dean Makar 7th

In the juniors, Charlotte Bailey finished 5th in the girl’s category TS3 and 14th overall.  Siblings Ella and Oskar made their debut with Ella finishing 1st in the TS1 category and Oskar realised he had a puncture halfway through his cycle but pushed through and came in as No 11 in the TS2 category.  Ben Daley finished in 18th in the TS2 category and The Kuijten brothers Josh 17th TS1 , Reuben 16th TS2 and Ethan 1st TS3.  Frank Edwards competing in the TS3 finished in 16th

Bristol Track Club 3km

Harriet and Matilda Saunders started the summer season with the Bristol Track Club 3km road race on Saturday 13 April and the Winchester Open Meet on Sunday 14 April.

Both girls recorded personal bests over the 3km course with Harriet (11:49) taking 6th place in a closely fought U13 girls event and Matilda (13:14) taking 3rd in the U11s.

English Schools Athletics Track and Field Championships 2024

Two Team Kennet athletes were selected to represent their School Counties in the English Schools Track and Field Championships held at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium at the weekend.  Turkay Altuntas reached the final finishing in 4th for the discus throw with 37.36m.  Kenechi Akosa also reached the final for the 100m and finished in 8th clocking 22.82s.

South of England Indoor Track and Field Championships

Several Team Kennet athletes travelled to Lee Valley Athletics Centre to participate in the South of England Indoor Track and Field Championships at the weekend. Theo Nightingale for the Under 17 boys finished 4th in the high jump with a leap of 1.70m.  Isabel Payne for the Under 15 girls finished 11th in the long jump with 4.17m.  Turkay Altuntas Under 17 boys was 5th in the shot throwing 12.84m.   Berkay Altuntas for the Under 15 boys was 9th in the shot  8.08m Ella  Larkin and Elodie Burdett represented the Under 13 girls entering the 800m.  Ella Larkin went on to the final finishing in 4th with  2:36:31.

Wessex League Match 2 – Quadkids

Team Kennet Quadkids were back in action at Southampton Athletics track for the 2nd match of the Wessex League.  The weather was glorious—but our athletes were even better. Six of them smashed through the 200-point barrier. Huge congratulations to:

Matilda Saunders, Olivia Kwit, Marlie Jai Proctor, Chester Bailey, Harvey Baker, and William Moloney  The final combined score 1,742 points—a truly outstanding team performance, we won overall!

For the Under 11 girls 8 athletes took part, Olivia Kwit taking the lead in the 75m sprint clocking 12s.  In the long jump Marlie-Jai Proctor leaped furthest with 3.58m, close behind Matilda Saunders 3.42m.  Kwit ran 1:59 in the 600m, Saunders close behind 2:01.  Darcey Scaplehorn took the lead in the vortex throw with 28.71m.  Overall the girls finished 1st place on the day with Matilda Saunders taking 2nd place individually. 

Under 11 boys also had a team of 8.  Harvey Baker, Alexander Browning and William Maloney all clocked 11.4s in the 75m sprint.  Some great jumps in the long jump, but Baker took the top spot with 3.44m, Moloney close behind 3.41m.  Chester Bailey took the lead in the 600m clocking 1.59.1.  Finally in the vortex throw, Harvey Baker threw 45.04m, Bailey 35.57m.  The boys also took the top spot finishing in 1st place on the day, with Baker taking 2nd place individually.

SAL Match 5

Team Kennet produced one of their best ever team performances in the Southern Athletics League Division 3SW match held at Swindon on Saturday, securing a top 6 finish in the league

A convincing win on the day saw two club records broken and 32 individual wins.

Hayley Steward was again in fine form breaking the clubs Shot Putt record winning in 11.06, and the other club record which was equalled to Anna Montagne in the High Jump which goes  back to 2005 winning with a height of 1.56. The B String in the Shot was won by Alisha Bradford 7.46 and in the high Jump B by Anna Pettit 1.40. The Long Jump saw another double win Steward leaping 5.20 and Pettit 4.29, and in the Triple Jump Steward making it another win 10.09 and Georgina Bradford taking the B string. Alisha Bradford won the Discus with a 27.56 throw and Cheryl Angell taking 3rd B string, while in the Hammer A. Bradford had to settle for 2nd place 29.78 and a win in the B string by Cheryl Angell. Pheobe Hoaen produced a massive throw in the Javelin of 37.33 to win and produce the fourth best throw with a senior javelin as a u17 in the UK,  Montagne won the B string 21.89.

On the Track a superb Double came in the 400m event Montagne clocking 62.1 and Pettit 63.8, just before another Double came in the 800m Kirsty Bennet 2.38.1 and G. Bradford 2.44.5, Kira Angell started the track of on the day in the 400m hurdles coming 2nd in 79.6.

The Sprint races Steward had to settle for 2nd places in both 100m 13.4 and 200m 27.5 in the A string while in the B string events wins came from Sunita Sisodiya 100m 13.8 and Kira Angell 200m 28.9. The long

er distance races 1500m Bennet had to settle for 2nd place 5.40.6 and G. Bradford taking a B string win 5.49.5, while in the 2km Steeplechase a double win came from G. Bradford and Hoaen. The relay teams both won their races firstly in the 4x100m clocking 55.7 and the 4x400m team 4.33.6, the TK girls were unbeaten all season in their category.

The Mens section also clocked up a lot of win, in the High Jump Joe Osler cleared 1.86 to win and Daniel Hockaday cleared 1.50 to take 2nd B string, Osler teamed up with Josh Willock in both the Long and Triple jumps to score Double wins, in the Long Osler 6.01, Willock 5.89, triple Osler11.74, Willock 11.40, in the Field the club could only secure 4th places in all four disciplines first time this as ever happened.

On the track Willock secured a double sprint wins, in the 100m clocking 11.7 and 200m 24.0 while two 3rd places came from Osler in the 100m and Hockaday 200m, the 400m hurdles D. Hockaday came 3rd A string and Nick Bull won the B string. The 5000m Gavin Mclaughlin came 2nd A string 19.57 and a Win came in the B string from Mitchell Poustie 22.15.  The 800m James Mclaughlin came home in 2nd place with Gavin Mclaughlin 3rd, the 1500m j. Mclaughlin could only get 4th A and a welcome return from Duncan Mcgrory a vet 60 clocking 4.59.2 took 2nd place but has clocked the 4th fastest time this year in the UK by vet 60. Both relay teams had to settle for 3rd places
