Team Kennet bagged a huge amount of medals at the recent Berkshire Track & Field Championships held at Palmer Park in Reading that saw over 30 athletes from the club attend.

A total of 13 gold medals were won from u13s to Senior Athletes, Luke Angell won his Senior Javelin title which he has held for over 10 years throwing 59.17m, in the under 20 age group Oliver Ford won both the Discus 38.31 and Shot 12.66. Team mate Seb Simpson in the under 17s won a hattrick of medals in the Hammer 49.39, Discus 36.71 and Shot 12.24.

In the under 15 age groups Will McDonald threw the Javelin 31m to hit gold, while in the Discus Turkay Altunas struck his first county title throwing 28.82 and then winning the Shot with 10.47, Evie Lewis made sure she won a gold in the girls Discus throwing 23.8.

The under 13s also won Gold Medals and the highlight was in the Javelin where Team Kennet Boys achieved a 1-2-3-4, Noah Lauder-Clark taking victory with 30.14, Ben Daley taking Silver 24.57, Euan Jones the Bronze 23.77 and Josh Ladds 21.05, Ben Daley won the Shot with 6.47.

There were quite a few silvers won in the Senior mens Discus by Harry booker 30.36 and Under 17mens James Fenner in the Javelin 42.80, The under 15 Girls Amber Stiles cleared 1.40 for Silver in the High Jump, Ethan Kuijten clocked a fast 10.14 in the 3000m for 2^nd place, and Eliska Simpson threw Discus for 2^nd place 23.53. Silver medal also went to Lottie Absolom in the u20 women’s Shot 9.85.

In the under 13 age group more silvers came from Ella Cronk in the High Jump 1.20.

Bronze Medals were won by Ben Daley in the Long Jump 3.77, Charlotte Bailey in the under 15 high jump 1.30 and the 3000m clocking 11.59.4, Zoe Dickson in the Javelin 16.22 and finally Eliska Simpson in the Hammer 21.10.

Zoe Allen took part in the Somerset Champs winning a gold in the u17 women Shot 10.53 and coming 2^nd for silvers in the 80m hurdles 14.3 and Javelin 31.80.

With the torrential rain coming down, The U11 Boys went out first on the day with 8 taking part in a very wet Vortex throw.  Some superb throws with Jenson Nichols throwing a huge 30.77m and Malik Gaye close behind with 27.30m.  Gaye stole the show in the long jump with a leap of 3.46m, with Nichols close behind him with 3.38m and Flynn Sanderson and Samuel Atkins both leaping 3.10m.    In the sprints, Nichols was quickest clocking 12s closely followed by Gaye with 12.2s and Samuel Atkins 12.5s.  In the 600m Atkins was quickest clocking 1:59 and Gaye 1:59:6. Other boys taking part Brodie Sanderson, Miles Phoenix, Henry Kaxe, Cedric Roberson.  On the day, the boys finished 4th place with 799points.

After more downpours causing a delay, first up for the girls was the long jump with Matilda Clare leaping the furthest with 3.59m followed by Penelope Lyth 3.28m.  Isla Ladds, Ella McDonald and Alice Stratford all jumping over 3m. Next up the 75m sprints Clare sprinted to the finish line in 11.7s with Orlagh Stratford close behind with 11.9s. The sun shone down for the 600m and it was a strong event for the U11 girls with Clare clocking 1:59:2, Lyth 2:06:9 and Elizabeth Wilson 2:07:3.  Finally in the Vortex Clare threw furthest with 31.18m, A Stratford 26.92m.  Other girls taking part in the Squad of 10 Evie Kearney, Maisie McCurtin and newcomer Sophia Mahoney.  The girls team finishing first on the day with 800 points.

Congratulations to Under 11 Girls winning their age group and winning the Girls Quad kids League out of 26 teams.  Not only this combined with the u11 boys they scored 1599 points to come third today but secured enough points to finish 3rd overall in the Quadkids League out of 26 teams.  Matilda Clare has been crowned u11 girls quad kids champion in Wessex YA League with 241pts.  Clare is our 2^nd girl to win Wessex Quad kids individual and this will be the 2^nd time girls have won u11 girls quad kids league. 

Team Kennet Juniors were in action again in the Wessex Young Athletes League in the final match of the season at Abingdon, The West Berkshire  club secured a top 8 league finish out of 26 clubs finishing second on the day.

All the Girls age groups finished 2^nd places in their age group matches, making sure that all the girls finished also in the top 8 of their own age groups, in the under 17 women’s age group on the Field a double win came from Zoe Allen throwing a massive 39.78 to put her in 7^th in the UK rankings and backed by Evie Lewis in the B string javelin. Lewis earlier won the Discus with 27.95, Both Girls teamed up again in the Shot with Allen only just winning with a throw of 10.53 and to make it another double Lewis won the B with 8.42.

Second places rolled in from the High Jump with Leilah Gaye 1.40, on the Track Isla Clare ran the double of 800m 2.40.2 and 1500m 5.23.1 to finish 2^nd in both, Ellie Ross came 2^nd in the B string 300m, in the A string Sophie Moores stepped up the distance to try it with a 4^th place 48.0.

The 4 x100m Relay quartet of Moores, Gaye, Ross and Clare came home in 3^rd place.

The under 15 girls were without several key athletes but the squad kept up their consistency through out the season, on the Field 2^nd places came from the Shot Daisy Downer 7.48 and Anna Hall 5.22, same again in the Javelin as the two paired up again, and in the Discus Downer had to settle for 4^th place in the A string. The High Jump Ella Cronk came 3^rd with 1.30m, this was matched in the Long Jump with Emerald Hill Sawyer 4.35 and Amelie Tayton 3.65.

On the track, Hall tackled the 1500m to come home in 2^nd place 5.32, in the shorter 800m Cronk was placed 4^th 2.47.9 and 2^nd in the B string from Tayton, Hill Sawyer was consistent in the 300m with 3^rd place 45.6 and 2^nd place came from B string Chloe O’Riordan 49.6,  The 200m saw full turnout in the A string Hill Sawyer was 5^th 28.6 and Cronk 29.3 in the B string for 3^rd place, in the 100m O’Riordan came 6^th in 14.8.

The 4x100m Relay team of Hill Sawyer, Hall, O’Riordan and Cronk came home in 3^rd place.

The under 13 girls had several wins, in the Javelin Ella McDonald won her first ever event with a throw of 17.19, Penelope Lyth had a go at the Discus and was rewarded with a 2^nd place 13.53, another win came in the High Jump with Jessie McCurtin leaping 1.32, McCurtin came 2^nd in the B string Shot 5.24 with team mate Affra Bailey 4^th A string 5.32, Earlier on McDonald came 4^th A string in the Long Jump 3.60 and Olivia Bentley 2^nd B string 3.54.

The Track saw good points coming from the Distance races, in the 1500m McCurtin came 2^nd 5.29.2 and a great run from Lyth winning the B string 5.30.80, in the 800m Bentley ran a superb race to come home winner with 2.34.7 and Affra Bailey just missed out on winning with 2nd place 2.50.2, Bentley tackled the shorter 200m with a fast 28.8 to finish 2^nd A string which was matched by Isla Ladds in the B string 31.4, Lyth clocked 14.9 in the B 100m for 2^nd place in the A string Ladds came 5^th 15.4, Ladds also came 3^rd in the sprint hurdles with 15.7.

The 4 x100m relay team were convincing winners in 58.7 Ladds, Lyth, Bentley and McCurtin.

The Boys Sections couldn’t quite match what the girls did, but some outstanding performances came from the under 17 two athletes, Firstly Theo Nightingale winning the High jump in 1.79, a Double win from Nightingale 5.48 and Kennechi Akosa 4.76 in the Long Jump, where both boys just made it with seconds after a car crash on the A 34 delayed them getting to the match, Akosa was fired up after just running and jumping in the long jump pit to secure one legal jump managed to warm up and went out and won the 200m in 22.7, he later went on and won the 400m in 51.7.

The under 15 Boys came 2^nd in their match, again missing some of the squad, the field team racked up the points, in the Javelin Will McDonald came 2^nd 34.53 but team mate Noah Lauder-Clarke won the B string 30.57, in the Discus Rueben Kuijten was 3^rd A string 21.98 and a B win came from McDonald 20.57, The Shot Ben Daley came 3^rd 6.62 and Kuijten came 2^nd B 6.61 matching his team mate. The long Jump Daley was 4^th and Josh Ladds 3^rd B, on the track best of the results came in the B 300m with Josh Brian 47.0, and 100m Josh Brian and Josh Ladds both came 3^rd in their strings.

Finaly the under 13 Boys were looking for a top 3 finish in their age group, that soon went as the competition was tough, as the boys had to settle for 3^rd place in a close match, Oskar Larkin secured a superb 2^nd place in the high Jump with a leap of 1.40 and Malik Gaye won the B string 1.20, The Javelin Euan Jones had to settle for 2^nd place 30.22 and Larkin made it a win with 23.33 in the B string, on the Track the 1500m saw a superb race Harry Smith could only get 3^rd place with 4.52.6 and Sam Atkins in the B string came 2^nd in 5.32, Larkin came 3^rd in the 800m 2.39, this was matched in the 200m from Harry Smith 30.0 and JJ Mercer 31.9,  Connor O’Riordan added points from his events 100m 4^th B 15.3 and Long Jump B string 3.39.

The Relay team of Larkin, Gaye, Mercer and O’Riordan came home in 3^rd place.

Team Kennet’s Christmas night brought a lot of Christmas Colour and themes from around the world, just over 60 juniors turned up from 7 to 14.

On the night best Female went to Scarlett Mizan with Anna Hall runner up and Chloe Yorston third, in the Males Ethan Kuijten won with William Appleby runner up and James Fenner third.

The West Berkshire  & North Hampshire Primary Schools Cross Country got back in to action again at Newbury Showground after a 2 year gap due to Covid on Tuesday, Organized by Team Kennet Athletics over a New Course with all four races on the same route over 1.28miles.

The Event now in its 24th year saw 44 schools compete with 1211 finishers really amazing numbers after what has happened in past two years.

The first Race year 3 / 4 Girls saw 261 finishers, two runners battled it out till the last 200m where Ella Larkin finally broke her rival to take the win representing Falkland, Quinn Joyce (Fir Tree) came in just a few seconds behind for second and Maisie McCurtin from Falkland took third place, for the Team awards, Falkland took the team victory over Thorngrove and St. Nicolas in third.

Race 2 the year 3 / 4 Boys again saw another two way battle till last 300m, Alexander Crosse came out the strongest to win from Falkland, Ronny Bowsher from Thatcham Park took second and Malik Gaye from Spurcroft taking third place, the Teams it was Falkland again taking the win, with St. Nicolas second place and Springfield third team, 304 finishers in this race

Race 3 the Year  5 / 6 Girls saw 314 finishers, yet again another two way battle up front down to the last 100m that saw Erin-Rose Dunk  from Pangbourne just edging in front for the win, over Anna Hall from Falklnad and Sefahian Siabulu from Long Lane taking third place, The Team victory went to St. Gabriels, with Streatley taking second place and Thorngrove third.

Race 4 the Year 5 / 6 Boys saw the biggest field of 332 finishers, Aiden Fleming from Bucklebury started off with a lead that he never gave up to win by 100m, Beau Williams from St Nicolas taking second place and Jacob Nowak from Speenhamland third place, The Teams first place went to John Rankin School, with Falkland taking 2nd place and St. Nicolas third place.

The overall winning school went to St. Nicolas by a single point while retaining champions Falkland took runners up and Thorngrove taking third place and the first Hampshire Schools Trophy, fourth place went to John Rankin  and making up top 5 teams Francis Baily.

The small Schools Trophy went to Streatley and the Overall B team (second teams) went to Thorngrove.

There is now a League System set up of 3 Divisions, In Division 1 St. Nicolas School were crowned Champions with Falkland runners up and John Rankin Third, In League Division 2 Thorngrove won with St. Gabriels taking Second and Pangbourne third place will all get promoted to top Division. League Division 3 saw Long Lane take the win, The Winchcombe taking runners up and Hampstead Norreys third place all being promoted to Division 2

The Team Kennet Nite of the Mad Miles took place on a very warm evening at the Crookham Common Athletics Track.

Four races were held over the evening, First race was the under 9 and under 11 girls which actually saw the biggest field of 22 finishers, Quinn Joyce Led from the start with Ella Larkin u9 in hot pursuit all the way, these two opened up a gap to Maisie McCurtin also under 9 with rest of the athletes battling it out for minor places, Larkin tried in vain to get on to Joyce’s toes but in the end being under 11 Joyce came home as the winner with a time of 6.31 putting her 5^th fastest all time on the Mad Mile Leader board, Larkin came in as runner up with 6.36 putting her 8^th on the leaderboard but fastest time by any under 9 in the 18 year history of the event. McCurtin made it in third place with 6.49 who ran second fastest time as under 9, Harriet Saunders just missed out u11 in 4^th place with 6.51.

Race 2 saw 13 athletes line up in the u9/11 boys race, it was a 5 way battle till last 200m in a very tactical race that lead runner Oscar Larkin led from the gun, he clocked 6.05 putting him in 4^th place in the overall all time leader board, second place went to Harry Smith u11 in 6.09 putting him in 6^th on the leaderboard, then in was Malik Gaye 6.12, 4^th place went to Elliot Bell 6.14 and Luke Stiles 6.16 who won the Most improved Miler award by running 1.14 mins faster than last year.

Race 3 incorporated under 13/15 race with the under 17 and above age groups, Eve Brown u17 led from the start to have to take a sprint finish to win the race in 5.43 which put her 3^rd in the all time leader board, her rival came from Gemma Jones senior lady with 5.44 going 4^th in the All Board, Alanna Smith did well to hang on to these two to take 3^rd spot in 5.55, Amber Stiles u13  took the younger age group win in a time of 6.07, with Anna Hall u13 runners up spot 6.13 and Emerald Hill-Sawyer taking the 3^rd place spot 6.13 same time as Hall.

Race 4  saw huge entry of u13/15 and under 17 and above of 26 entries, but only 16 turned up on the night, Ethan Kuijten u15 led the way in a fast 5.34 to win the younger age group, Aiden Fleming u13 taking runners up 6.00 and Aaron Carter u13  3^rd place 6.06, The under 17 upwards was won by Jonjo Stiles v40 in 5.40 with Andy Collins v50 in a fast 5.48 and third place going to  Mitch Poustie 6.21.
