Sportshall League match 3

Sportshall Match 3 – 27th January 2019

In the last match of the sportshall season the team gave everything and were rewarded with a long list of top threes.

The U11 boys blue team had their best team result of the season, coming in second on the day. Ivan Chekmazov and Jack Pyke ran an outstanding Paarlauf winning by 1.4 seconds with 70.6sec. Ivan also came second in the vertical jump (47cm). James Fenner won the indoor javelin with 16.50m and came 3rd in the speed bounce (52). William won the target throw with a score of 12. In the red team Max Adams came just behind James in the speed bounce with a score of 51.

The U11 girls were up against very strong teams. Their best results came from Tillie Bell taking 5th in the Balance test with a near perfect score of 53 seconds and Millie Philips in the speed bounce with 50 jumps coming 7th. The majority of the girls were lower age U11 and so are looking forward to an excellent season next year.

In the older groups Aimee Dickson won the U13 girls speed bounce with 84 and in his last sportshall match for Team Kennet Harry Booker (U15 boys) once again won the Shot with 12.06m and came third in the triple jump.

Indoor Track and Field

Team Kennet’s Hayley Steward struck two medals in Cardiff, Wales at the weekend in the South West Indoor Track & Field Championships, she also claimed two new club records in the process.

In Hayley’s favourite event the Shot she claimed a gold medal with a throw of 11.36 and in the 400m she came home with a silver clocking 63.62

Sportshall Championships

Sportshall U13/15 Championships

We took 7 athletes to the U13 &15 sportshall championships on Sunday. Both teams were low on numbers, but all athletes were able to compete as individuals and join some of the team events.

The Under 15 boys nearing the end of their sportshall time gave fantastic performances with Harry Booker winning the silver medal (221pts) and Oliver Gregory coming fourth (215pts), just missing out on a medal by 4 points. In the individual events they shone in the shot (again!) with Harry winning (12.61m) and Oliver close behind in 2nd (11.86m). Harry also came 2nd in the speed bounce (78), 3rd in the Standing triple jump (7.19m) and 5th in the 4 lap (44.4s). Oliver came 4th in the standing long jump (2.43m) and 5th in standing triple jump (7.01m), 2 lap (20.4s) & 4 lap (44.4s).

In the U13 girls Aimee Dickson came 5th in the overall competition, winning the speedbounce (83) and coming 4th in the 1 lap obstacle (17.8s).  Harriet Gibson came 4th in the speedbounce (72). 

The individual placings for the rest of the U13 girls (all first year U13) were Lyla Goodwin 23rd, Harriett 29th, Grace Wotherspoon 42nd and Alanna Smith 44th.

South of England Indoor Championships

Team Kennet had two athletes compete in the South of England under 17 Indoor Track & Field Championships at the weekend at Lee Valley.
Anna Montagne came 11th in the womens High Jump 1.55 and took 4th place in her heat of the 200m with a time of 27.9
Oliver Bazin took part in the long jump to come 17th with 5.04

Xmas Fun Night

Team Kennet’s Christmas night brought a lot of Christmas Colour and themes from around the world, just over 60 juniors turned up from 7 to 14.

On the night best Female went to Scarlett Mizan with Anna Hall runner up and Chloe Yorston third, in the Males Ethan Kuijten won with William Appleby runner up and James Fenner third.

Guess the Number went to Anna Hall, with Oliver Lloyd taking the second number and trading his prize for the Envelope which when he opened surprised him with £15, and Zoe Allen took 3rd in the Number challenge

South of England Combined Events

Team Kennet’s Anna Montagne earned herself her first major medal at the weekend in the South of England Pentathlon at Lee Valley in the under 17 age group.

Anna’s score of 3255 which gave her third equal on the day was a club record points score, on her way to Bronze she also broke the clubs under 17 High Jump indoor record clearing 1.60m, she threw the Shot 10.33, jumped 4.93 in the long jump clocked a fast 9.44 in the 60m hurdles and ran the 800m in 2.36.94

Berkshire XC Championships

Team Kennet hosted the Berkshire Cross Country Championships at St. Andrews School in Pangbourne over the weekend, on a Challenging Course through woodland and up on to pitches the course wasnt suited for the faster runners more for the endurance, as the club were hosting less than normal runners from the club took part, but still some superb perfomances, Kirsten Fraser in the under 13 girls was the clubs best result not far behind the winner came home for a bronze, Eve Brown came home in 12th place and Anna Patterson 16th.

Toby Draper was the clubs next best finisher in the u20 race finishing 6th with Bradley Thomas 7th.

The Senior Womans Race Kirsty Bennet came home in 8th place and Georgina Bradford 12th.

The mens race Bart Kuitjen was 14th and Mitch Poustie 29th

The under 13 boys secured 4th place in the team awards, led home by Toby Clark 13th, Noah Kemp 16th, Oliver Tozer 20th and Isaac Mitcham 25th

Bethan Philp came 11th and Caitlin Nowell 15th in the under 17 womens race, in the younger under 15 girls race Annelise Gale was 18th

Sportshall League match 2

SPORTSHALL 26TH NOVEMBER 2018

Team Kennet took 23 athletes to the second sportshall league match on Sunday. This was the first match for the U11’s.

The U 11 boys blue team came 5th on the day and our partial red team came 16th. Our U11 girls team came 13th. Most of these teams were first timers and lower age still learning the events but are showing great potential for the future. Our best results came Max Cassey, James Fenner and Ivan Chekmazov. Max in his first ever match won the triple Jump with 5.78m and also got 3rd in chest push (6.5m).  James took 2nd in High Stepper with 13.5 sec, 3rd in chest push (6.5m) and 4th in vertical jump (41). Ivan got 4th in the 2 lap with 22.4sec. James and Ivan were joined by Joseph Hoaen and Enzo Morrison to come 4th in the 4×1 lap.

The U13 Girls are currently 5th in the league and boys 9th. The best result came from Aimee Dickson coming first in the balance test (60sec ) and 5th in the vertical jump with 45cm. She was closely followed by Lyla Goodwin with 44cm in the vertical jump.

The U15 team of Harry Booker and Oliver Gregory continued their domination of sportshall in Berkshire by achieving top 3 in every event.  Harry won the Chest Push with 7.25m, came 2nd in Standing triple jump with 7.39m and Hi Stepper (11.7s) and finally 3rd in 4 lap, 43.8. Oliver came second in the 4 lap with 43.2s, and third in Standing triple jump (7.31), Hi Stepper (12.5) and Chest Push (6.5m).  A force to reckoned with!

BBO Cross Country

Team Kennet athletes were in action in the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Cross Country Championships on Sunday at Newbury Showground. Under 13 Toby Clark was the club highest placed runner in the under 13 boys race coming 10th with team mate Noah Kemp 14th.

The under 13 girls Kirsten Fraser just missed out on the top 10 coming 11th with Anna Patterson 16th and Eve Brown 24th. The Under 15 girls Rebecca Thomson came in 15th with twin sister Georgina 22nd and Annelise Gale 24th. Bethan Philp was 16th in the under 17 womens race.

The men had a much better turn out with new comer Toby Draper coming 27th, then a cluster of yellow vests Chris Hall 55th, Bradley Thomas 60th, Bart Kuijten 61st, Ben Schiffer-Harte 79th, Dave Smith 83rd, Mitch Poustie 90th and Simon Gale 100th.

Park Run Challenge

Team Kennet Park run Challenge saw nearly 60 runners turnout in October, 4 weekends of park running saw on average 35 club runners each week try to get their best percentage age time.

A small Presentation was held on the Monday after the last run weekend, with one of the Newbury Park Run Directors Dave Smith presenting the awards to the top 3 in each category.
