National Schools Biathle Championships 2024

Three Team Kennet athletes travelled to Leweston School in Sherborne, Dorset on Sunday to participate in the National Schools Biathle Championships.  Biathle consists of a run, swim and run.  Distances vary for each school year group.

First up was Elodie Burdett from St Gabriel’s School, Newbury for Year 5.  Elodie started well entering transition in 3rd place and put in a good swim and her final run put her in 4th place. There were two heats for her age group due to larger number of participants so overall finished in 6th

Penelope Lyth from Fir Tree Primary School for Year 6 had a strong start, leading the pack for the first 300m, two girls passed her just before transition and a solid swim got her out of the pool in 2nd and a strong final run allowed her to keep her 2nd place and a place on the podium.

Finally, Aaron Humphreys from Sherfield School for year 10.  This heat was run with the Yr 11, 12 & 13 boys so he finished 6th overall which is a great achievement against older athletes but he also secured 2nd place for his year group.

Bracknell Young Athletes Open Meeting 2024

Team Kennet had 14 young athletes take part at the Bracknell Open on 31st March.

Elodie Burdett U11 Girls scored personal bests in all 3 of her events, 75m, 150m and 600m.  In the 600m she finished 4th clocking 02:08:41. In the U13 group there were 4 athletes taking part.  Euan Jones in the Javelin finishing in 1st position throwing 26.90m.  Josh Bailey entered the 1200m finishing in 10th.  Ella McDonald competed in 150m, long jump and made her debut with the Javelin finishing in 4th with 10.44m.  Penelope Lyth also in the long jump, 75m and 600m clocked a new PB 1:54:76 to finish in 4th. In the U15 group Anna Hall was next with the 1500m with a time of 5:52:90.  Ella Cronk entered high jump finishing 3rd with a new PB 1.30m , long jump another PB 4.24m and 800m 2:41:46.  Charlotte Bailey finished in 3rd with a new PB in the 1500m 5:13:70.  Noah Lauder-Clarke finished in 5th in the Javelin throwing 26.87m and Will McDonald 3rd 32.33m.  McDonald also entered the Discuss finishing 6th with a throw of 19.98m.  Zoe Dickson finished in 9th place in the Discuss throw 17.60m and 5th in the Hammer 16.77m.  For the U17’s Evie Lewis finished 3rd in the Hammer with 30.59m and 5th in Discuss 26.83m. Bethany MacLean entered 300m and 800m clocking personal bests in both events.  James Simmons entered 100m , 200m and finish 5th in the long jump.

Bournemouth Open

Harriet and Matilda Saunders of Team Kennet were in action over the weekend at the Bournemouth Open. Poor weather hampered their early performances, but Matilda ran a huge PB in the 600m of 2:01.85 to clinch second place overall in the QuadKids event and not to be out done Harriet powered to victory in the U13 girls 800m in a PB of 2:34.33.

Oxford League Match 3

Team Kennet secured a match win at the recent Oxford Young Athletes League match held at Abingdon to take the overall League title and taking some age group league Titles as well from Under 17 Women and Under 13 Girls.

A new League record was set in the under 15 Boys Shot from Turkay Altuntas which also broke the clubs record with a huge throw of 14.47 to rank him 6th in the UK.

Both the under 17 age groups won their matches on the day, which certainly helped TK to overall winners on a very hot humid day, starting with the boys, Kenechi Akosa was on form as he just missed two league records, he won first the 400m in 52.0 easing back halfway round, later clocking 23.4 in the 200m, Jo Hoaen made a welcome return winning the Discus 28.97, taking 2nd place in the Shot and third in the Javelin, Theo Nightingale secured a win in his favourite event the High jump with 1.75, James Simmons and Nightingale teamed up in the Long Jump both taking 2nd places, Simmons taking 2nd place in the 200m B string and Simmons and Nightingale teamed up in the 100m to gain further points.

The girls saw Clare McGonnell win the Javelin with a 33.53 throw, and team mate Evie Lewis taking 2nd place in the B  string, Lewis threw 26.07 to win the Discus, then went on to win the Shot with 8.95. The High Jump secured two 2nd places from Leilah Gaye 1.40 and McGonnell 1.30, and in the Long Jump McGonnell came 3rd A string and Emelia Lunn taking 2nd in the B string.

On the Track best result came from the 300m Lunn taking 3rd place 46.8 and Sophie Moores winning the B string. The Shorter 200m Moores took 4th A 29.9 and Gaye 3rd B string 32.9, in the 100m Lunn came 6th 14.3 and Moores took 2nd place in the B string 14.5

The 4 x 100m Relay came home in 4th place.

The under 13 Boys won their match on the day and had to settle for 2nd place overall in their age group league, there were some superb double string wins, in the Field the Javelin saw Jenson Nichols 30.44 and Berkay Altuntas 22.56, in the high Jump Oskar Larkin cleared 1.35 in a thrilling competition with team mate Sam Atkins 1.30 making it another double win, Altuntas won his Discus 31.82 and Shot 8.92, in the B string Alfie Cronk came 2nd. On the track day started with Harry smith in the 1500m coming home in 2nd place in the A string and this was matched by Josh Bailey in the B string 5.50.9, Malik Gaye came 3rd in his sprint hurdles, Sprints were tough but Nichols, Thomas Williams and JJ Mercer picked up good points to the tally.

 The under 13 Girls had to settle for 2nd place on the day just behind Oxford, again some superb double wins came from the 1500m Harriet Saunders 5.16.3 and Jessie McCurtin 5.37.9, The High Jump secured another Double win from McCurtin 1.32 and Matilda Clare 1.20, there were also good wins from Isla Ladds who threw the Discus for the first time throwing 16.50, she earlier came 2nd in the Long Jump 3.78, back on the Track Olivia Bentley won the 800m just missing her best time 2.34.3, using her ability and speed she came 2nd in the 100m 14.7, Clare came 5th in the 200m 30.5 and McCurtin made it a Hatrick of wins in the B 200m 31.0, Afra Bailey came 3rd in her best event of the day 800m, also taking part was Ella McDonald 3rd in the B string Javelin 12.41 and Quinn Joyce took part in the non scoring 800m and Long Jump.

The under 15 girls were depleted on the day, only 3 turning out, Charlotte Bailey won her 1500m in 5.08.3, coming 3rd in her 300m 47.1 and teaming up with Ella Cronk both came 2nd in their strings, in the high Jump Cronk had to settle for 3rd place 1.30, on the Throws Zoe Dickson gained good points.

The under 15 Boys came 3rd on the day, some great results came from Will McDonald 2nd A string 36.42 and Noah Lauder Clarke  B string win 34.55 in the Javelin, Rueben Kuijten made sure he backed up Turkay Altuntas to win the B string Discus with a throw of 23.91 and Altuntas 30.71, Kuijten had to settle for 2nd in the B string shot, Josh Ladds won the B string Long Jump 3.96 and Lauder-Clarke taking 4th A string, Frank Edwards gained good points in the 1500m and also  Josh Brian in the 100/200 and 300m

Also in action were the Team Kennet Quad Kids with some remarkable results on the day.  Congratulations to Ella Larkin for breaking the Oxford League record in the 600m! With this incredible achievement, Ella now holds the records for the Oxford League, Wessex League, and Team Kennet.

Also congratulations Lenny Wyvill, who shattered his own records in both the Oxford League and Team Kennet! In the 600m.  An  incredible performance from all the athletes in the final match of the season.  The U9 Boys finished 1st,  Chester Bailey led the charge with another outstanding individual victory! U11 Boys finished 5th overall, with a stellar performance by Sebastian Lane, who secured 2nd place individually. U9 Girls2nd place on the day, with Sienna Preston taking the overall individual win and U11 Girls another remarkable win, with Ella Larkin claiming 1st place overall!

World Cross Country Championships

Andy Collings of Team Kennet finished 28th V60 in the World Cross Country 8km Championships in Slottsskogen City Park, Gothenburg as part of the 25th World Masters Athletics Championships. Andy was the 4th GB runner to finish so unfortunately missed a team gold medal (top 3 to score). Good team performance, with 2nd and 3rd individual medals.

Team Kennet started of the Oxford Young Athletes League with a superb League overall win out of eight clubs at Horspath in Oxford

The under 13 girls were 2nd in their match the middle distance girls picking up wins in the 1500m early in the day with Harriet Saunders 5.36.5 and Jessie McCurtin 5.38.7, Also in the shorter distance of the 800m with Olivia Bentley 2.36.5 and second place in the B string Penelope Lyth 2.51.4, McCurtin secured a second win in the B string 200m 31.5, 100m Olivia Bentley 3rd A String 14.8 and Penelope 3rd B String 15.8s.  Matilda Clare won her B string high Jump with a leap of 1.15, she came second in the Javelin 15.07 and team mate Ella McDonald won the B string 13.91. In the shot Affra Bailey 3rd A String 4.32m. The 4x100m Relay quartet of Clare, Bentley, McCurtin and Lyth ran superb legs to come home in first place 60.3.

The under 13 Boys matched the girls with a second place in their league, firstly on the track superb double win came from Harry Smith 5.11.6 and Josh Bailey 5.58.5 in the 1500m, more double wins came in the  Javelin with Euan Jones 28.79 and Jenson Nichols 18.94, The discus Berkay Altuntas 27.10 and Alfie Cronk, and Berkay made it another win in the Shot 7.29, Nichols picked up a second in the B string High Jump 1.10, while Sam Atkins cleared 1.20 for 3rd A string in the High Jump, Harvey Butler ran well in the sprints 100m 15.3 and 200m for 3rd 32.2

The under 15 boys also finished 2nd in their match, best result came in the Discus with Turkay Altuntas winning with 36.58 and Will McDonald winning the B string 17.75, Turkay went on to win the Shot with a huge 12.40, in the Javelin another win came in the B string with Josh Ladds 20.05, Will McDonald had to settle for 3rd A string 28.92, elsewhere best points came in the B string 1500m with Arthur Patterson 5.35.1

The under 17 women had a much better turn out that usual, they also clinched second place on the day, on the field Emelia Lunn lept 4.61 and Sophie Moores 3.96 for a double win, Clare McGonnell won her Javelin 30.52, While Evie Lewis won two of her events Discus 24.86 and Shot 8.69, Moores added a win in the B string 200m 30.5 with McGonnell taking 3rd in the A string 28.4, she later came 2nd in the 100m B with 13.8

The under 15 girls league was tough, the Tk girls had to settle for 3rd place in their own league, some great races on the track unfolded, in the 300m a double win came from Emerald Hill Sawyer 47 and Chloe O’Riordan 49.4, Hill Sawyer had to settle for 2nd in the 800m with 2.39.3 but a good run from Ella Cronk 2.46.3 saw her first in the B string, Charlotte Bailey had to settle for 2nd in the 1500m 5.19.3 but Anna Hall made sure she won the B string 5.44.7. The Relay ~Quartet of Hall, Hill Sawyer, O’Riordan and Cronk ran a great race to come home in first place 59.8, on the field two second places came in the high Jump Cronk 1.30 and Bailey 1.15, then a Double win came from the Javelin Hall 16.84 and Zoe Dickson 16.13, Dickson went on to win the A string Discus 17.70, then came 2nd in the Shot 7.04

Finaly the under 17 mens age group came 4th, in the Javelin a superb double win came from James Fenner 43.66 and Joe Hoaen 19.49, Hoaen came 2nd in his Discus 25.22 and Shot 7.01. Theo Nightingale came 2nd in his High Jump 1.65

In the younger age group U9 and U11 took first place overall for QUADKIDS with 2140 points. 

Three Under 9 girls and 15 under 11 girls took part, some new to Quadkids this year and with last years success, they were keen to make a good start and didn’t disappoint. 

For the U9 girls it was Sienna Preston who impressed on the day, finishing 3rd overall. Newcomers Matilda Hogg and Evelyn Pedersen also taking part ensured the girls secured 2nd team on the day with 277 points.  For the U11 girls in the 75m sprint Orlagh Stratford was quickest for TK with 11.5s, sister Alice 12.4s and Sophia Mahoney 12.5s.  O Stratford also quickest for TK in the 600m clocking 2:01:0, again sister Alice close behind with Praiya Foreman clocking 2:09.  Orlagh leaped the furthest with 3.16m, Alice 2.84m and Matilda Sauders close with 2.76m,  In the vortex Mahoney stole the show with 26.79m, A Stratford 26.63m and newcomer Ines Field 19.85m.  Orlagh Stratford achieved 4th individual overall the team 1st on the day with 704 points. 

For the boy’s group there were five Under 9’s and 5 under 11’s taking part.  Chester Bailey making his debut in Quadkids and achieving 1st overall and Lenny Wyvil in 2nd overall.  Chester was quickest in the 75m clocking 12.9s and leaped the furthest with 2.58m in the long jump.  Lenny ran quickest in the 600m clocking 2:12:8 and also had the longest vortex throw of 23.03m.  Also taking part for the U9 boys William Winter and Idris Gaye.  The team on the day achieved 1st place with 559 points.

In the U11 boys it was Louise Cartwright and William Moloney neck and neck in the 75m clocking 12.2s.  Cartwright was quickest in the 600m with 2:03:5. In the long jump Cartwright again leaped the furthest with 2.81m, Moloney 2.56 and Sebastian Lauder-Clarke 2.42m.  Finally, the vortex throws Lauder-Clarke threw furthest with 21.44m, Gethin Thomas 20.27m and Cartwright close behind in 19.34m.  Strong performance from Cartwright saw him secure 4th place individual on the day.  The team finished in 5th with 600 points.

Junior Sports hall trials December 2023

We took 27 athletes to the last sportshall trials of the season to preparation for the County Championships in January. Our athletes were able to showcase their skills resulting in us coming away with a multitude of top 3’s including

Wessex Match 2

Team Kennet Juniors came 3rd in the Second round of the Wessex Young Athletes League on Sunday held at a baking Aldershot Athletics Stadium.

There were some great performances as both under 13 and under 15 girls came third in their matches.

The under 13 girls started the day well in the 1500m Harriet Saunders taking 2nd place in the 1500m 5.50.4 and Jess McCurtin winning the B string 6.18.9, later in the shorter 800m Emerald Hill Sawyer also took 2nd in the A string 2.39.5 and Ella Cronk stormed down home straight to win B string in 2.49.79.

Hill Sawyer tackled the sprints in the 100m coming 3rd 14.4 and the 200m one better 2nd in a fast 29.3. Saunders tackled the B string sprints coming 5th in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m.

The Relay team clocked 61.6 to finish 3rd place.

On the Field Daisy Downer made her debut in the throws winning her A string Shot 5.65 with B string Anna Hall taking 2nd 5.24, Hall came 3rd in her Discus, but in the Javelin a Double win came from Hall 21,39 and Downer 15.4, The High Jump Cronk had to settle for 3rd place 1.28 with McCurtin making her Debut in the High Jump coming 2nd on count back with 1.20. Cronk and Downer both teamed up in the long Jump coming 4th and 3rd.

The under 15 Girls also started the day off well, Charlotte Bailey coming home in 2nd place in the 1500m 5.31.6, in the Sprints Sophie Moores came 5th in her 100m 14.1 and Emelia Lunn clocking 14.3 I the B string for 2nd place, Hannah Taylor came 5th in the 200m 30.3, while in the 300m later in the day Lunn came 3rd 47.0 and Bailey 2nd B string 49.9

The Relay Team also managed a 3rd place in 58.2

The points were much better in the Field event a Double win came in the Discus with Eliska Simpson 26.00 and Evie Lewis 22.27.

Zoe Dickson came 2nd in her Javelin 16.15, in the Shot Lewis came 3rd A string 7.98 and another win from Simpson in the B string 7.51, in the Jumps, The High, Bailey came 3rd  1.35 and a Win came in the B string Hannah Taylor 1.30., Two second places came in the Long jump, with Lunn 4.28 and Ellie Ross 3.89.

Clare McGonnell was the clubs only u17 competitor she stormed to a victory in the 300m 44.01 and also won her Javelin 28.46 and came a fine 3rd place in the 200m 28.10.

The under 13 boys had a tough competition in their age group, they had to settle for 4th place in a very close match, the day started well in the 1500m as Harry Smith rode with confidence to win the 1500m in 5.16.5 and a Frank Edwards made sure he won the B string in 5.46.09 both athletes getting personnel bests, the shorter 800m Oskar Larkin came 3rd in 2.35.4 and Noah Lauder-Clarke taking 2nd B 2.46.4, in the sprints the TK athletes found competition very fast, in the 100m Harvey Butler ran 15.3 for 6th place, Josh Brian took 2nd B string 15.3, two 4th places came in the 200m Butler 32.5 and Smith 32.1, points were hard to get in the Field best coming from Lauder-Clark in the Javelin for 2nd place 29.05.

The under 15 boys were again up against tough opposition in the sprints James Simmons came 6th in the 100m 12.8 and 5th in the 200m 26.0, Aiden Hunter made his debut for the club in the 800m 6th 2.46 and High Jump 1.30 for 4th placed.

Turkay Altuntas made sure he got wins as he was the clubs best athlete on the day winning two of his events, The Shot 9.97, the Discus 32.02 and taking 2nd B string in Javelin 20.48, Will McDonald taking 4th in the A String Javelin 26.96 which he took in the Discus 15.46.

The under 17 men saw the return of Ben Cooper in the 100m 12.1 coming 4th and 24.8 in the 200m taking 2nd place, Jacob Avery also taking 2nd place in the B string 24.9, Oliver Carroll came 4th in his 800m 2.26, in the Field events Avery took 4th A in the long jump 5.17 and Cooper winning the B string 5.04, Avery cleared 1.60 in the High Jump for 2nd place.
