Team Kennet Round Off Oxfordshire League Match 3 with Four New Club Records

Team Kennet athletes enjoyed another excellent day of competition at Match 3 of the Oxfordshire Track & Field League, held at Tilsley on Sunday 6 September, with strong performances across all age groups, numerous event victories and several new club records.
The U14 Girls were the standout Team Kennet age group, finishing 1st overall with 134 points, while the U16 Boys produced another excellent team performance to finish 2nd with 88 points.
The U14 Girls enjoyed success throughout the programme. Ella Larkin finished third in the 75m hurdles in 14.3 before winning the 800m in an excellent 2:21.5. Thea O’Donnell was second in the 100m in 13.2, while Quinn Joyce won the 1500m in 5:13.5.
Maisie McCurtin won her 1500m race in 5:33.9 and also took victory in the high jump with 1.25m, while Orlagh Stratford won with an impressive 1.45m clearance.
There was more success in the jumps and throws, with Isla Ladds finishing second in the long jump with 4.40m before winning the discus with 26.82m. Matilda Clare won the long jump with 4.24m and the javelin with 25.60m, while Ella McDonald finished second in the javelin with 26.92m.
Affra Bailey won the 800m in 2:39.7, and the U14 Girls rounded off their scoring performances with Affra, Thea, Ella and Matilda combining to finish second in the 4x100m relay in 56.4.
Team Kennet’s U16 Girls also produced several strong performances. Harriet Saunders won the 1500m in 5:00.4, while Olivia Bentley finished second in the 800m with 2:35.3 and third in the 300m in 46.5.
Isabel Payne took second in the long jump with 4.18m, while Ella Cronk recorded 48.9 in the 300m, 3.88m in the long jump and 5.34m in the shot.
Catherine Wood had a busy and successful day across all three throws, finishing second in the discus with 23.83m, third in the javelin with 20.94m and second in the shot with an excellent 9.12m.
The U14 Boys also picked up valuable points. Daniel James won the 100m in 13.2, recorded 28.1 in the 200m and won the long jump with 4.34m.
Seb Lane also recorded 28.1 to win his 200m race, alongside 13.2 in the 100m and a strong 4.64m for third in the long jump.
In the throws, Alfie Cronk finished third in both events, recording 19.48m in the discus and 7.15m in the shot put.
The U16 Boys were another highlight of the day, finishing second in their age group with 88 points.
Noah Lauder Clarke won the javelin with an excellent 49.30m and finished second in the 300m in 45.3.
Josh Brian won the long jump with 5.40m and finished second in the high jump with 1.50m, while Josh Ladds won the high jump with 1.45m, won the javelin with 27.67m and finished second in the discus with 23.17m.
Oliver Young competed across three individual track events, recording 12.1 in the 100m, 26.2 in the 200m and 44.2 in the 300m. Owen Tilsley ran 12.9 in the 100m and 27.8 in the 200m, while Frank Edwards recorded 2:24.2 in the 800m.
Josh Brian, Oliver Young, Frank Edwards and Owen Tilsley then combined to finish second in the U16 Boys 4x100m relay in 51.5.
At U18 level, Zoe Dickson represented Team Kennet in the women’s throws, finishing second in the discus with 23.26m and third in the shot with 7.86m.
Theo Nightingale enjoyed a superb double victory in the U18 Men’s competition, winning the high jump with 1.90m before taking the long jump with an excellent 5.65m.
There were also plenty of opportunities for Team Kennet athletes in the non-scoring programme. Darcy Claridge ran 5:45.6 in the 1500m and cleared 1.25m in the high jump, Chloe Davidson competed in the 75m hurdles and long jump, while Lottie Longhurst contested both the 100m and 200m.
Karaleia Bamfield ran 2:41.0 in the 800m, Matilda Clare threw 15.33m in the discus and Ayla Wyvill recorded 5.95m in the shot and 13.50m in the javelin. Among the U16 Boys, Josh Brian added a 25.9 200m, while Frank Edwards ran 44.8 in the 300m.
It was also another excellent day for the Team Kennet record books, with performances from Ella Larkin, Thea O’Donnell, Catherine Wood and Theo Nightingale improving current club marks, while Josh Brian’s high jump matched the current best.
With the U14 Girls taking an age-group victory, the U16 Boys finishing second, plenty of individual wins and strong performances throughout the scoring and non-scoring programme, it was another successful Oxfordshire League meeting for Team Kennet.
