Junior Triathlon

A triathlon is a combination of swimming, cycling and running to make one continuous race. The swim comes first, followed by the cycle and then the run. It is a non-stop race, so any time spent between disciplines is included in the overall time.

The swim can take place in a pool or sometimes open water. The cycle for juniors will always take place on a course closed to traffic, sometimes on roads but more often on a field. The run is also on a closed course, normally grass.

To compete, athletes need to be members of the British Triathlon Federation. Day membership is also available and is arranged with the event organiser.

Junior Age Groups

Ages are based on the athlete’s age on 31 December in the year of competition:
  • TS – 8 years
  • T1 – 9 and 10 years
  • T2 – 11 and 12 years
  • T3 – 13 and 14 years
  • Youth – 15 and 16 years
  • Junior – 17 and 18 years
