The first match of the new sportshall season saw the teams
dominating the speedbounce and foam javelin competitions with top performances
in each team.
The U11 Boys, all new to sportshall had a fantastic start to
the afternoon, winning their heat in the first race of the day, putting them 5th
in the hurdles relay. Our top results came from Connor Jordon and Will
McDonald. Connor won the 1 lap in 11.9s, and jumped to 2nd place in
the standing triple jump with 5.30m. Will got to the end of the foam javelin
runway with his winning throw of 19.5m.
The U11 girls team came 4th overall. Bethany
Maclean, won both the speedbounce with 56 and the foam javelin with 14.0m
before coming 2nd in the individual 1 lap with 12.5s. Emma Long and
Erin Gosney were joint 2nd in the speedbounce with 54. Erin also
took 3rd place in the chest push with 5.25m. 4th places
were gained by Leilah Gaye in the standing triple jump with 4.68m and the team
of Bethany, Leilah, Lilia Gale and Zoe Dickson in the hurdles relay.
The U13 girls continued the theme with Annabel Maclean
winning the speedbounce with 85 and Zoe Allen close behind coming 2nd
with 80. Zoe and Annabel then came joint 4th in the individual 1
lap.
Finally in the U15 girls Aimee Dickson came 2nd
in the speedbounce by 1 jump with 87 and Emily Tucker took 2nd place
in the chest push with 5.5m
In the second match of the Berkshire Sportshall League our best team result came from our U15 girls who managed 3rd place. They were closely followed by the U11 Boys in 4th place The U11 girls cam 5th, U13 Boys and Girls came 6th.
In the U11 Boys Connor Jordon led the way with 3 first places. The 1 lap obstacle with 18.1 sec, the 2 lap with 22.8sec and the vertical jump with 48cm. He was closely followed by Ethan Kuijten in 2nd place on the 1 lap obstacle with 18.7sec. Will McDonald gave us another 2nd place with a score of 13 in the target throw.
The U11 girls managed a 1,2,3 in the Hi Stepper. Erin Gosney won it with 13.7sec, Emeilia Lunn (in her first competition) took 2nd with 14.0sec, closely followed by Bethany Maclean in third with 14.1sec. Bethany got the team another 1st place in the 1 lap obstacle with 19.1sec, 2nd place in the vertical jump with 45cm and third in the 2 lap with 24.9sec. Erin also got 4th place in the target throw with a score of 10.
In the U13 boys our best result came from James Fenner in the StandingTriple jump with 6.16m putting him in 3rd place. James also came 5th with Ivan Chezmanov in the 1+1 lap. William Appleby also managed a 5th place in the 1 lap obstacle.
The U13 girls relay team of Annabel Maclean, Zoe Allen, Clare McGonnell and Carly Chrisholm worked incredibly well together to come 2nd in the obstacle relay. Annabel also came 2nd in the Standing Triple Jump with 6.44 and 4th in the 1 lap obstacle (18.5sec). Zoe threw the shot to 4th place with 6.75m.
Finally the U15 Girls each managed a top 3. Aimee Dickson claimed 1st in the speedbounce with 85, Annabel Gibson 2nd in the Standing Long Jump with 2.13m and Emily Tucker 3rd in the shot with 8.90m.
On Sunday 9 of our athlete competed in the Sportshall
Berkshire Championships in a combination of individual and team competitions.
Congratulations to our U15 girls who ended an intense
afternoon winning team bronze medals. The 2 experienced and 2 first timers all
competed both as individuals and as a team, a total of 8 events each. As individuals Aimee Dickson and Annabel
Gibson came joint 5th overall with Lottie Absolum and Gemma Moon
coming 11th and 14th respectively.
In the events, the girls had a succession of top 5
performances including Aimee 1st in speedbounce (87) and 3rd
in shot (7.72m). Annabel 4th in Long Jump (2.04m) and 5th
in speedbounce (73). The pair joined up to come third in the 8 lap paarlauf.
Aimee, Annabel, Gemma and Lottie then joined together to come 4th in the 4×2 lap relay.
The U13 Girls and Boys all competed as individuals. In the
girls Lyla Goodwin lead the way coming 11th overall. Clare McGonnell
came 28th and Carly Chrisholm 45th. Clare came 3rd
in the speedbounce with 75 jumps. Lyla managed 4th place in both the
standing long jump (1.96m) and vertical jump (42cm).
The boys were represented by Joseph Hoaen and William Appleby
both in their lower year of the U13’s managed individual placings of 17th
and 18th respectively.
Sportshall U13 &U15 Championship – 14th January 2018
Sunday was the U13 and U15 Sportshall Championship Match at Eton, with 14 Team Kennet athletes taking part.
The U15 Boys, Harry Booker and Oliver Gregory took part in the individual competition coming 11th and 14th respectively. In the field events Harry came 1st in the shot with 11.25m and Oliver 3rd with 10.68m. Harry also came 3rd in the speedbounce with 80 jumps.
In the U13 boys, Oliver Humphrey came 5th in the 2 lap time trial with 22.3s and Sam Campbell 5th in the speedbounce with 73 jumps. As a small team they came 6th overall. In the individual competition Oliver came 13th, Sam 16th and Harry Davis 21st.
The U13 Girls had Aimee Dickson place 2nd in the speedbounce with 81 jumps, Annabel Todd 5th in the 6 lap time trial with 79.8s and Annabel Gibson 5th in the Obstacle Course with 18.1s. The team came 6th overall with the individual placings of Annabel Todd 10th, Annabel Gibson 14th, Aimee Dickson 17th, Ella Ward 23rd and Charlie Pennicott 34th.
The U15 Girls were our only full team on the day coming in 5th place. Anna Montagne took 2nd in the 4 lap time trial with 45.7s, Ellie Armstrong 4th in the vertical jump with 55cm and Sophie Weadon 4th in the shot with 9.19m. In the overall individual competition Anna came 10th, Ellie 19th, Sophie 23rd and Phoebe Hoaen 26th
The last competition of the season is on 28th January.
Sunday 14th January Team Kennet Juniors participated in their first Berkshire Indoor Sports hall Championship since pre COVID at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre. SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS is an indoor form of track and field for children between the ages of 4 and 16 and it allows the young athletes to train during the cold and dark winter months. A superbly organised event with the girl age groups participating in the field events first, and the boys the track, That Saw Team Kennets under 11 Girls Blue Team Crowned Champions of Berkshire.
We had teams representing U11 and U13 age groups and following their huge success in track and field finishing on top of the Wessex and Oxford leagues, the U11 girls were able to provide two teams.
In the U11 boys we had a team of 7 and the team achieved 6th place with 266 points. In the field events Malik Gaye managed 2nd place in the Vertical jump, and the chest push and Samuel Atkins 1st place in the balance test. On the track Jenson Nichols and Joe Mercer secured a 3rd place in the 1+1 lap event. Other boys taking part Gethin Thomas, Sebastian Lauder-Clarke and Sebastian Lane.
For the U13 group the girls had a smaller team of 5 also finishing in 6th place with 226 points. In the field Ella Cronk secured 2nd place in the standing long jump. Jessie McCurtin 3rd place in the speed bounce. The girls were consistent with their track events finishing 5th in the 4 events. Other girls taking part Anna Hall, Emerald Hill-Sawyer and Harriet Saunders, if they had one more team member they would have been able to finish in the top 3.
In the U13 boys we had a full team of 8 securing a 5th place with 270 points. Euan Jones and Noah Lauder-Clarke had success in the 3+3 Lap event finishing in 1st place . In the Paarlauf Lauder-Clarke teamed up with John Brian to finish in 3rd place. Other boys taking part Ben Daley, Harry Smith, Josh Brian, Oscar Larkin, Henry Bell and Elliot Bell.
With two teams entered it was sure to be a busy day for the U11 girls. In the red team Sophia Mahoney secured a 4th place in the balance test and on the track in the 1+1 Millie Barlow and Gracie Cooke finished 4th. Also in the red team Alice and Orlagh Stratford and Ella Parsons. With 268 points the red team secured 6th place.
For the blue team there were some strong field performances, a 1st place for Matilda Clare in the standing long jump, 3rd place in the vertical jump for Ella McDonald, 2nd for Penelope Lyth in Speed Bounce and 1st and 3rd place for Isla Ladds and Penelope Lyth in the Hi Stepper. In the field 2nd place for Isla Ladds and Penelope Lyth in the 1+1 race. Also, success for the team with 3rd places in the 2+2, 3+3, Paarlauf, 4×2 relay and 4th place in the 4×1 relay. Completing the team were Maisie McCurtin, Affra Bailey and Matilda Pedersen. These performances secured the girls 1st place with 318 points.
Prior to the Championship there were three trial events and Team Kennet have 9 athletes which have been selected to represent Berkshire at the Intercounty competition in February. These athletes are Emerald Hill-Sawyer, Ella Larkin, Ella McDonald, Isla Ladds, Matilda Clare, Jenson Nichols, Joe Mercer, Malik Gaye and Samuel Atkins.
Each March the club holds its annual Winter presentation of awards for outstanding achievement representing and working with the club during the winter season including Cross Country, Indoor Athletics and Indoor Sportshall.
This season Team Kennet had huge team success with Cross Country, with Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 girls all winning the Basingstoke Cross Country League. Under 9 and Under 13 boys both finishing 2nd and U11 Boys 3rd.
Well Done to all and several athletes received TK Stars for competing in all 4 matches.
In the league for the individual performances U9G Praiya Foreman finished in 1st Place and Matilda Saunders 2nd. U9B Chester Bailey 2nd, William Moloney 5th and Idris Gaye 6th.
U11G Ella Larkin 1st, Penelope Lyth 3rd and Matilda Clare 4th. U11B Malik Gaye and 2nd, Samuel Atkins 3rd.

In the Club Championships U9G Praiya and Matilda hold the joint 1st position with Matilda Hogg finishing 3rd. U9B Chester Bailey 1st, Idris Gaye 2nd and William Moloney 3rd. U11G had 16 girls compete this year with Ella Larkin finishing 1st, Penelope Lyth 2nd and Matilda Clare 3rd. U11B Samuel Atkins 1st, Malik Gaye 2nd and Thomas Williams 3rd. U13G Harriet Saunders 1st, Anna Hall 2nd, Emerald Hill-Sawyer and Ella Cronk in joint 3rd. U13B Harry Smith 1st, Elliot Bell 2nd and Oskar Larkin 3rd. U15G Charlotte Bailey 1st and Lola Mitcham 2nd. U15B Ethan Kuijten 1st and Max Adams 2nd.
The Senior Athletes participated in the Oxfordshire Cross Country League and in the Club Championships for the Senior Women in 1st place Katie Reynolds, 2nd Anna Riggall and 3rd Georgina McCabe. Senior Men, 1st Andy Colling, 2nd Mitch Poustie and3rd Phil Baker.
To round up the Cross Country Awards there were two most improved athletes, in the male category JJ Mercer and female, Orlagh Stratford.
2023 saw Team Kennet return to Indoor Sportshall with several athletes taking part in the Berkshire Trials in November and December. Congratulations to those athletes who were selected and received TK Stars; Ella Larkin, Isla Ladds, Ella McDonald, Matilda Clare, Malik Gaye, Jenson Nichols, Samuel Atkins and Emerald Hill-Sawyer. At the Sportshall South East Regional Final the U11G Berkshire team finished in 2nd, U11B Berkshire Team 4th and U13G Berkshire Team 3rd.
For the Sportshall awards in the U11Gs the winner was Matilda Clare and runner up Isla Ladds. U11B winner Malik Gaye, U13 winner Emerald Hill-Sawyer and runner up Ben Daley. This seasons Sportshall Queen was awarded to Penelope Lyth. In the Berkshire Sportshall Championships held in January 2024, where Team Kennet U11Gs were crowned Champions, Penelope was the best overall performer as she was the only athlete to finish in 2nd or 3rd in all the events she competed in. We look forward to returning to Sportshall after the success this season. Special thanks to all at the club who made it happen, especially Sarah Dickon and daughter Amiee for their support pre/post event, nominations and presentation for the awards.
The final award of the evenings is the Champions Champion and this seasons winner is Malik Gaye.

Team Kennet had their first Sportshall League Match of the season on Sunday at Eton. We took 17 U13 and U15 athletes. Most teams were short on numbers but had excellent results beating other teams of the same size.
The U15 boys came 4th, with Harry Booker and Oliver Gregory battling each other for position, coming first and second in both the 4 lap and shot. Harry won out with 44.6 seconds in the run, beating Oliver by just 0.2 seconds with 44.8sec. In the shot it was Harry again with 12.66m to Oliver’s 12.19m. Annabel Gibson represented the U15 girls by herself coming 8th overall. Her best result coming in the standing triple jump where 6.09m put her in third place.
The two U13 boys, Ben Fisher and Edward Cain came eighth overall, even beating another team of 3 athletes. The U13 girls were the best represented on the day, with the full blue team coming fifth and the partial red team coming eleventh. The best individual results came from Aimee Dickson winning the speed bounce with 78 and 4th in the shot with 6.66m. Alanna Smith, in her first sportshall competition, sped home in the 6 lap to take 5th with 83.2 sec and Lyla Goodwin jumped to 6th in the standing Long jump with 2.02m.
Several TK Athletes participated in the Sportshall Trials to try and be selected as part of the Sportshall Regional Championships held in February. Please see results below. Further details of the selected individuals will be released following the Berkshire Championship in January 2025.
Team Kennet took 23 athletes to the second sportshall league match on Sunday. This was the first match for the U11’s.
The U 11 boys blue team came 5th on the day and our partial red team came 16th. Our U11 girls team came 13th. Most of these teams were first timers and lower age still learning the events but are showing great potential for the future. Our best results came Max Cassey, James Fenner and Ivan Chekmazov. Max in his first ever match won the triple Jump with 5.78m and also got 3rd in chest push (6.5m). James took 2nd in High Stepper with 13.5 sec, 3rd in chest push (6.5m) and 4th in vertical jump (41). Ivan got 4th in the 2 lap with 22.4sec. James and Ivan were joined by Joseph Hoaen and Enzo Morrison to come 4th in the 4×1 lap.
The U13 Girls are currently 5th in the league and boys 9th. The best result came from Aimee Dickson coming first in the balance test (60sec ) and 5th in the vertical jump with 45cm. She was closely followed by Lyla Goodwin with 44cm in the vertical jump.
The U15 team of Harry Booker and Oliver Gregory continued their domination of sportshall in Berkshire by achieving top 3 in every event. Harry won the Chest Push with 7.25m, came 2nd in Standing triple jump with 7.39m and Hi Stepper (11.7s) and finally 3rd in 4 lap, 43.8. Oliver came second in the 4 lap with 43.2s, and third in Standing triple jump (7.31), Hi Stepper (12.5) and Chest Push (6.5m). A force to reckoned with!
Team Kennet travelled to Thames Valley Athletics Centre to compete in the annual Berkshire County Sports hall Championships. The U11 girls had a huge turnout with 2 teams participating, the blue team of Ella Larkin, Sophia Mahoney, Olivia Kwit, Ines Field, Praiya Foreman and Hazel Balch finished in 3rd place. They had some great results with 2 first places and 2 second places in the track events. In the field, Ella Larkin 5th in the standing long jump and 1st in the speed bounce. Ines Field 4th in the high stepper. Praiya Foreman 3rd in the vertical jumo and Olivia Kwit 5th. The Red team were 6th with some more great performances, Marlie-Jai Proctor finishing 3rd in the Speed bounce.
Under 13 girls had one team and finished 5th out of 9 teams with some great individual performances, Isla Ladds 5th in the standing long jump and high stepper, Penelope Lyth 4th in the Speed Bounce and Matilda Clare 4th in the vertical jump.
The Under 11 boys finished 5th out of 9 teams, and some of the boys the youngest in the competition performed well finishing in 2nd place in the paarauf and Harvey Baker 4th and Chester Bailey 6th in the standing long jump.
The Under 13 boys didn’t have a full team on the day so it was always going to be a challenge to be in medal position, but they put in a great performance to finish 8th on the day with a great performance in the standing triple jump by Samuel Atkins finishing 7th.
