QUADKIDS Wessex Match 2
Team Kennet Quadkids stole the show on Sunday in Match 2 at Aldershot finishing on top.

The U11 Boys went out first on the day with 7 taking part. In the long jump Samuel Atkins, Jenson Nicholes and Leo Jenkins all jumping over 3m with 3.16m. 3.18m and 3.19m respectively making it a close competition for the TK boys. In the sprints, Malik Gaye was quickest clocking 11.65 closely followed by newcomer Nicholes with 11.66s and Atkins 11.93s. In the vortex Nicholes threw furthest with 31.99m, Gaye just behind with 26.03m. All boys ran well in the 600m considering the heat on the day, but Gaye stole the show clocking 2:00:9 to be quickest out of the TK boys. Other boys taking part Henry Kaxe, Josh Bailey, and newcomer Harry Davey. On the day, the boys finished 4th place with 801 points. Newcomer Jenson Nicholes finishing 5th 217 pts in the individual results.
First up for the girls was the long jump with Matilda Clare leaping the furthest with 3.78m followed by Penelope Lyth and Ella Larkin both with 3.37m and Ella McDonald 3.15m. Next up the 75m sprints with Clare, Lyth and Larkin all clocking times under 12s, Orlagh Stratford was close clocking 12.06s. Ella Larkin led the way with the 600m clocking 2:01:2 with just under 3 seconds between Clare, McDonald and Lyth. Finally in the Vortex Clare threw furthest with 26.51m, Alice Stratford 23.40m and again close between Larkin, McDonald and Lyth all throwing over 20m. Other girls taking part in the Squad of 10 Maisie McCurtain, Jasmine Hemmings, Izzy Fagan and Gracie Cooke. The girls team finishing first on the day with 831 points with Tilly Clare 1st 231pts and remains unbeaten, Ella Larkin 3rd 217 pts and Penelope Lyth 200pts 5th. After two matches the girl are currently top of the league out of 26 teams.


Berkshire Track and Field Championships
Team Kennet bagged a huge amount of medals at the recent Berkshire Track & Field Championships held at Palmer Park in Reading that saw over 30 athletes from the club attend.
A total of 13 gold medals were won from u13s to Senior Athletes, Luke Angell won his Senior Javelin title which he has held for over 10 years throwing 59.17m, in the under 20 age group Oliver Ford won both the Discus 38.31 and Shot 12.66. Team mate Seb Simpson in the under 17s won a hattrick of medals in the Hammer 49.39, Discus 36.71 and Shot 12.24.
In the under 15 age groups Will McDonald threw the Javelin 31m to hit gold, while in the Discus Turkay Altunas struck his first county title throwing 28.82 and then winning the Shot with 10.47, Evie Lewis made sure she won a gold in the girls Discus throwing 23.8.
The under 13s also won Gold Medals and the highlight was in the Javelin where Team Kennet Boys achieved a 1-2-3-4, Noah Lauder-Clark taking victory with 30.14, Ben Daley taking Silver 24.57, Euan Jones the Bronze 23.77 and Josh Ladds 21.05, Ben Daley won the Shot with 6.47.
There were quite a few silvers won in the Senior mens Discus by Harry booker 30.36 and Under 17mens James Fenner in the Javelin 42.80, The under 15 Girls Amber Stiles cleared 1.40 for Silver in the High Jump, Ethan Kuijten clocked a fast 10.14 in the 3000m for 2nd place, and Eliska Simpson threw Discus for 2nd place 23.53. Silver medal also went to Lottie Absolom in the u20 women’s Shot 9.85.
In the under 13 age group more silvers came from Ella Cronk in the High Jump 1.20.
Bronze Medals were won by Ben Daley in the Long Jump 3.77, Charlotte Bailey in the under 15 high jump 1.30 and the 3000m clocking 11.59.4, Zoe Dickson in the Javelin 16.22 and finally Eliska Simpson in the Hammer 21.10.
Zoe Allen took part in the Somerset Champs winning a gold in the u17 women Shot 10.53 and coming 2nd for silvers in the 80m hurdles 14.3 and Javelin 31.80.

Under 15 s 1500m Ethan Kuijten 5th 4.45.49, Elliot Murphy 7th 4.52.04, Lola Mitcham 7th in girls 5.52.92, 800m Chloe O’Reardon 2.54.03, Discus Zoe Dickson 5th 16.25 and Shot 9th 6.38.



West Berkshire Schools Quadkids festival
Team Kennet and West Berks School Sports Network Delivered the annual West Berkshire Quadkids Athletics Festival over the weekend held at Park House School.
The event now in its 15th year saw around 500 youngsters take part in four events over the day, A sprint, distance run, Vortex Throw and a Standing Long Jump.
The year 3 / 4 boys saw only 6 points separate the top 3 in the individuals that saw Luca Brown from St. Gabriels win with 190pts, he was just 1 point ahead of John Rankin Jack Cripps and Pip Maclennan from Burghclere took 3rd with 184pts, The girls saw Orlagh Stratford take the individual win with 183 points from St. Nicolas School, John Rankins Sophia Mahoney took runners up with 177 and Alice Stratford also from St. Nicolas School took third place 160pts.
The Team Placings couldn’t be much closer John Rankin came out as year 3 / 4 Team winners with 1251pts and Francis Baily taking runners up 1245 and St. Nicolas third with 1233.
The year 5 / 6 boys saw a great individual win from John Rankins Alex Rowe 242pts, with Cold Ash Will Devall taking 2nd 236pts and third going to Francis Baily Malachi Stephenson 229pts. In the girls Tilly Clare came out on top from John Rankin 216 pts with Alice Kirby runner up 201 pts and Quinn Joyce from Fir Tree in third with 199pts.
John Rankin came out on top in the team award with 1646pts well ahead of runners up Falkland 1380 and John Rankins B team took third place 1344.

QUADKIDS Wessex League Match 1
Team Kennet Quadkids were back in action at Tilsley Park, Abingdon on Sunday for the first Wessex League match of the season.
The U11 girls’ team was full with 10 athletes competing on the day and top scoring with 786 points. This score puts the U11 girls top of the overall league out of 26 teams.
First up was the Long Jump with Quinn Joyce and Penelope Lyth equal on 3.36m and close behind was Matilda Clare 3.31m and Orlagh Stratford 3.25m. In the sprints Clare flew to the finish line with a fast time of 11.20s. Lyth and O Stratford also under 12 seconds. 600m was a strong event for the girls with Joyce quickest at 1min 59 sec, followed by Lyth 2min 5sec and Clare 2min 7sec. Other strong performances from O Stratford 2min 13sec and Ella McDonald 2min 14sec. Final event was the vortex just in time to miss the rain with Clare leading the team again with a long throw of 26.10m, followed by Elizabeth Wilson 19.901m and Evie Kearney 17.56m. Other athletes taking part Alice Stratford, Izzy Dagan, and Elodie Burdett.
Th U11 Boys team scored well with just 3 taking part including two newcomers Leo Jenkins and Josh Bailey. In the long jump Leo Jenkins leaped 3.27m to score well and also ran quickest for TK in the 75m sprint with a time of 12.20s. In the 600m the boys all ran well with only 10 seconds to separate them with Jenkins finishing ahead with 2min 18s. Last up was the vortex throw with Joshua Kuijten throwing the furthest with 26.24m.

Team Kennet started the Wessex Young Athletes League with a excellent 2nd place overall at Abingdon On Sunday.
With numbers down due to other winter sports, a good start to the season is always hit and miss, the 40 strong squad made sure of a clutch of wins to give them that great start.

On the Day the under 15 girls won their age group, the clubs biggest squad on the day, in the field events Eliska Simpson won the Javelin 18.54, and her B string Zoe Dickson made it a Double, The discus saw another Double win from Simpson 20.22 and Evie Lewis 19.90 and in the Shot Lewis had to settle for 2nd 7.56 and Simpson won the B string 6.72, elsewhere on the field Charlotte Bailey cleared 1.30 in the High Jump for 3rd A string and Chloe O’Reardan came 2nd in the B 1.25, The long Jump Ellie ross came 4th A string.
On the track new comer Melisa Kalikwani started her debut wit ha win in the 75m hurdles 16.2, A double win came later in the 300m Bailey and O’Readan, in the 1500m Bailey came 2nd in 5.32.3 and Lola Mitcham winning the B string 5.59.6, In the shorter 800m O’Reardan came 4th 2.55.6 and Ellie Ross 2nd A string. The sprints saw Ava Brade come home in 14.6 for 5th place and Kalikwani in 3rd B string 15.1, earlier Kalikwani came 5th in the A string in the 200m 31.7.
The 4 x 100m relay team had to settle for 4th place 59.7 made up of Bailey, Ross, Brade and Kalikwani.
The under 17 men came 2nd in their age group on the day, Seb Simpson left off as he did from last year, winning his Shot 11.47, the Discus 38.19 and the Javelin 29.74, The Long Jump saw newcomer Ivan Pathirathna jump 5.24 for 2nd place and Isaac Mitch taking 2nd b string.
On the Track Pathirathna came 2nd in the 100m Hurdles 16.90, the 1500m saw a great run by Isaac Mitcham taking 2nd place in 4.38.1
The 100m Pathirathna came 4th in 11.9 in a very close race on the line, Caden Thomas came 2nd in the B string 12.8, Thomas also took part in the 200m clocking 26.4 for 5th place.
The under 13 boys came 3rd in their age group, the 1500m saw a great run by Euan Jones to take 2nd place in 5.27.8, B string Liam Neil won this string in 5.37.3, elsewhere on the track, Noah Lauder-Clark won the B string 200m 30.5, Josh Ladds coming 6th in the A string, in the 100m Ladds had to settle for 6th A string and Jones 4th B.
On the Field Josh Brian came 3rd in the A string 3.86 and a B win came from Jones 3.57, Rueben Kuijten came 3rd in the Shot 5.73 and went one better in the Discus 15.78, while in the Javelin Lauder-Clark came 2nd with a throw of 28.74 and another B win came from Ladds 20.05.
The relay quartet came in 2nd pipped right on the line in 62.4, Ladds, Lauder-Clark, Jones and Brian were the quartet.
The under 15 boys were 4th James Simmons took part in the sprints 100m 12.6 for 4th and going one better for 3rd place in the 200m 26.1.
Ethan Kuijten ran a great race in the 1500m to win in 4.47.4 and later on clocked 43.2 in the 300m for 4th place.
On the field Will McDonald won the Javelin with a throw of 31.15, The Discus Turkay Altuntas came 2nd with 27.88 and McDonald taking 2nd in the B 15.79 and in the Shot Altuntas also came 2nd in the A string 10.09 and Kuijten had another win in the B string 7.44, The Long Jump Simmons jumped 4.37 for 4th A string and McDonald 3.96 for 3rd B string.
The under 17 Women had to settle for 3rd in their age group, Zoe Allen won the 80m hurdles in 14.6, she threw 10.32 to win the Shot with Clare McGonnell winning the B string 7.20, McGonnell also won her Javelin with 30.80 throw. Amelie Ross came 3rd in her 200m B string which was matched by Allen in the A string 28.0.
The under 13 girls saw only 4 girls take part and came 4th overall only 1 point behind 3rd, Ella Cronk won her high Jump with a great effort of 1.30, She came 2nd in the Long Jump 3.65 with Jess McCurtin taking 3rd B 3.02, in the 1500m McCurtin came 2nd A string 6.29 and newcomer Elena Wilkinson won the B string 6.33, a superb double win came in the shorter 800m Emerald Hill Sawyer stalked her rival to ease past in the final 100m in a fast time of 2.36.8 and Cronk made it another win for her in the B string 2.59.1, Hill Sawyer also took part in the sprints 200m coming 3rd in 29.4 and 100m also 3rd 14.2, in the B string 100m McCurtin also came 3rd 16.2 and Wilkinson 4th B in the 200m 35.2, the 4 girls also took part in the 4 x 100m coming 4th in a nail biting finish where the girls led for 75% of the race.
Team Kennet had lots of non Scoring athletes in the under 20s 200m Euan Avery clocked 25.1 and Digby Riggal 25.5, both ran in the 100m Avery and Riggal both clocking 12.4, josh Brian clocked 15.6 in the u13 100m
Under 20 Charlotte Absolom broke the clubs u20 Shot record throwing 9.89 and also threw Discus 24.42, and under 20 Brandon Carter threw the Javelin 40.59.

West Berkshire & North Hampshire Primary Schools Cross Country 2023
Team Kennet held the 25th Anniversary West Berkshire & North Hampshire Primary Schools Cross Country at Newbury Show Ground this week.
A Record 1510 finishers smashed the existing record the event holds to push the UK record further to keep it in West Berkshire for a long time.
50 Schools came to the event and all children taking part got a special 25th Anniversary Certificate, The individual Placed top 3 not only got a trophy but were presented with a Special commemorative Teddy and T Shirt to mark the event.
The over night rain kept the course nice and soft over 1.3 miles which all four races run, in Race 1 which was the Year 3 / 4 Girls Ella Larkin from Falkland School took the early lead, which she extended to some 200m by the time she finished, Praiya foreman from Chieveley came in 2nd holding of Maisie McCurtin from Falkland in third place.
The team Score saw Falkland three runners take the team trophy with St. Gabriel’s 2nd and St. Nicolas taking Third place.
The Second race was year 3 / 4 Boys Benji Shelton from Francis Baily timed his run to perfection to take a superb victory in a close race over Charlie Herald Basildon in 2nd place and George Dow from St. Martins
The team Score saw Francis Baily take the honours with Woolton Hill in second place and Basildon in third
Race 3 saw the year 5 / 6 Girls Harriet Saunders from St. Gabriel’s took on the lead early to come home in first place, Quinn Joyce from Fir Tree School took second place and Ella McDonald from Francis Baily took third place charging down the finish straight being chased down by two others and held on just.
The Winning Team went to New comers to the event St Andrews, while runners up were St. Gabriel’s and Thorngrove taking third team
Race 4 the Year 5 / 6 Boys saw a great tactical race develop, Rupert Knight from John Rankin took the victory in the end over Oscar Larkin from Falkland, with Alex Rowe also from John Rankin taking third place
The team award went to Falkland as they packed in well, John Rankin had to settle for runners up and St. Andrews took Third place.
The League Division Trophies has taken a great hit with the schools, in Division 3 New comers St. Andrews won the League with Garland Junior taking second and St. Martins in third place all three getting promoted to League 2
League 2 saw The Winchcombe take the title with Hungerford Runners up and Cold Ash St. Marks in third all being promoted to Division 1
Finally League 1 saw Falkland take this with Thorngrove in 2nd and Francis Baily in 3rd place
The small Schools Trophy was retained by Streatley with St. Martins runners up and Cold Ash St. Marks in third place
The Hampshire Schools was won by Thorngrove with Woolton Hill Runners up and St. Martins Third
The B team Trophy was won by Falkland with Thorngrove 2nd and St. Nicolas taking third place
The Overall Winners of the Championships went to Falkland with St. Andrews taking runners up, Thorngrove in third place, Francis Baily in fourth and Streatley 5th place
Nick Bull event organiser would like to thank all the 80 Volunteers who helped out including the Young sports leaders from Park House School and St. Barts.
Nick who has been running the event for the 25 years said hes seen over 20,000 Children take part in the event and quite a few have gone on to represent national sports in various ways, putting West Berkshire on the map to be one of the most sporting counties. To have a UK record for a sporting event on the numbers is a major title and im very proud to be part of it.

Heptathlon Indoor event
Team Kennet Stuart Bladon came 3rd in the Patriot Indoor Track & Field Championships taking part in the Heptathlon at the Annapolis MN indoor Arena in America Recently.
Stuart broke 6 Club Records on his way hitting 5098 points to rank him 16th in the UK Rankings for Indoor Heptathlon in Senior Ranks, But top 5 in the u23 age group.
He Clocked 8.58 in the 60m hurdles, throwing 11.81 in the Shot, Jumping 6.69m in the Long Jump then clearing 4.10 in the Pole Vault as well as sprinting 7.32 in the 60m sprint all setting new club records, he jumped 1.88 in the High Jump and then clocked 2.45.99 in the last event of the day 1000m.

Inter Counties Cross Country
Team Kennet had several athletes compete for Berkshire in the Inter Counties Cross Country at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough.
In the under 13 Girls Charlotte Baileys Training has been paying of as she finished 134th out of over 300 girls on a muddy and undulating tough course. She helped the Berkshire team finish 7th overall out of 46 Counties.
Isaac Mitcham took part in the under 17 race finishing 255th and Ethan Kuijten took part in the Under 15 Boys race finishing 268th.




Destination Cross Country League
Team Kennet juniors were in full action on Sunday in the Destination Cross Country League, in Basingstoke hosted by the club, over a slightly hilly course with turns and a few straight runs, Team Kennet saw some 50 plus juniors turn out to challenge for top 3 individual and team awards, not only that their own club championship league points were at stake in some close age groups.
The under 9 Girls were last years winners of their own league, the girls were home and dry before todays fixture, but made sure they stayed unbeaten in any event since the pandemic, Ella Larkin led from the gun again and stride by stride she pulled away to win her race and be crowned under 9 champion, she was backed up by Masie McCurtin who earned her 2nd place on the day and to finish second overall, not to miss out Orlagh Stratford came home in 4th place but this was enough for her to move up to 3rd overall. Matilda Saunders was next home in 6th place, Elodie Burdett improving each match came 7th, Evie Kearney 15th, Sophia Barnett 20th and Evelyn Barker 23rd for the B team and Jasmine Hemmings 25th out of a field of 31 girls.
The under 9 Boys had to settle for 3rd team Overall, Gethin Thomas was the clubs first runner home in 7th with Josh Kuijten 8th and new comer Chester Bailey 10th and Jacob Williams 21st for the scoring team, the B team Alex Cameron 22nd, Max Burt 25th and Seb Lauder-Clarke 27th in a field of 38 finishers.
The under 11 Girls as the season went on got stronger and stronger, they secured their 2nd win in a row, and to move them to 1st place overall on count back over Aldershot Farnham & District. Harriet Saunders timed her run amazingly to finish 3rd on the day wit ha strong finish, Quinn Joyce held on to 4th place and to take 3rd place individual overall, Ella McDonald was next home in 7th closely followed chasing her down Matilda clare in 8th, Penelope Lyth came home in 13th with Penelope Gorbold 33rd and Affra Bailey 34th that saw over 50 girls start the race.
The biggest Field of the day was under 11 Boys where 66 started and finished, Oskar Larkin was the clubs first home in 6th place just missing out on top 3 overall, Harry Smith was 11th, Euan Jones 14th and Liam Neil 16th, Luke Stiles led the second team home in 23rd, Ben Doherty 24th, Elliot Bell 25th and Samuel Atkins 26th, the Third Team was led by Malik Gaye 29th, Henry Bell 36th, josh Bailey 47th and Lestyn Thomas 55th, Cameron O’Riordan 61st and Alfie Cronk 66th saw 14 boys from TK take part in this race, The boys came 3rd overall in the league behind Aldershot winners and Basingstoke runners up.
The under 13 girls had almost secured their League, Charlotte Bailey gave it a good go and had to settle for 2nd place on the day, this was good enough to take 2nd place overall, Emerald Hill Sawyer was next home in 8th place, Amber Stiles 9th and Ella Cronk 11th, Lola Mitcham was 13th and Chloe O’Riordan 14th, as the girls came home in 1st place on the day, In a very close team competition with 4 clubs all within 5 points, the win made sure of the under 13 girls taking the league title.
The under 13 Boys Aaron Carter led the A team home in 9th place with Ben Daley hot on his toes in 11th, Noah Lauder-Clarke wasn’t to far behind in 13th and Marlowe Barber 15th for 3rd place on the day, Charlie Adams was 17th, Harry Barnett 18th and Rueben Kuijten 21st
The under 15 Boys Ethan Kuijten came home in 3rd place as per last match to help him take 3rd overall, and Max Adams took another 4th place to move him in to top 6 individual placings.
Team Kennet saw over 70 youngsters compete for the club this season, which was a record number.
